oil pressure gauge

Hi,
was hoping I could get enlightenmenton a problem I've never experienced before. I started my truck, and went down the block, and the oil dummy light was on with pressure needle indicating L. I got parked/shut it off ASAP. Later, I started truck, and everything appeared normal for the first 30 seconds. Then dummy light on, needle gauge at L again, but only for about 1 second, and then back up to normal. This happened 3 times within a few minutes, but then was fine for next 7 minutes it took me to get home. There is no power loss, rough idle, overheating, or any other sign of trouble. The oil was professionally changed a week ago, without any indication of a leak since. I have seen no trouble until today. Help, please!

Hi and welcome to FTE.
First just ot let you know, the gauge doesn't really show how much pressure that you have. If you have over about 7psi, than it will read a bit over 1/2 way up. It will read the same with 10psi or 80psi.
The most common reason for the problem that you are having is a faulty sending unit or loose connection on it.

Thanks-so far most research leans on what you are describing, and that's what I'll check out first. My truck is a 2001 F150 Supercrew w/ 5.4L, 47K mileage. Thanks again!
