86 ford 150, when i start my vehicle the oil pressure gauge reads high, as i drove it, it slowly to low following by some rapping. i'm going to bring it to a local garage but thought someone might help me out before they rake me over the coals. do you think any engime damage was done? why did oil pressure plummit? it has a 300 6cyl, but engine seems extremely strong even went pressure wnet sown. its always had a small lifter noise but some say fords ahve that. i'm desperate for any help!!!!!!!
I always thinks positive when I have that problem.
1) First thing I would do is put 1 quart of Gunk Motor Oil Flush along with the oil in the crankcase. Start the engine for 5 minutes at IDLE. Turn the engine OFF. Drain the oil and remove the oil filter. Let it sit dripping for a couple minutes. Put new oil and oil filter. Test the engine.
If problem persists,
2) I would go ahead and replace the oil pump, oil pump strainer/filter and clean the gunk/debris in the oil pan. Go back to step 1).
another person replied and basically said my engines telling me its wearing out, i dont want to sink tons of cash into this if i dont have to. i have no idea where to go with this. the truck was sitting for 2 yrs, i spent almost 800 on mechanics to pass t he saefty inspection, and now this. should i give up or is there hope.
Diagnose and fix yourself. Rapping kinda tells me the oil sending unit to the gauge ain't lyin' but try the gunk trick, you may be surprised with the results.
