On my 97 F350 PSD how can i make it where i dont have to press the clutch in to start it. Which wire can i cut or what can i do? Please Help! Thanks for any Input
Why the hell would you want to do that? It's just my opinion, but that sound crazy to me. Picture this, you walk to your truck in the parking lot, ****ed because you were in line way too long. Jump in and fire off a high torque low rpm heavy truck. You don't have your foot on the clutch so your truck proceeds to push the minivan in front of you of which a mother and her child were loading grocerys in the back of. In a panic you miss the clutch. They are either injured badly or dead because you overrode a safety system. I don't see the gain, but I see the loss. Entirely my opinion man, I think it would be bad.
The reason why i want to do this is because now when i push the clutch down it will start sometimes and sometimes it wont. If i had an idea on how to fix it to where it would statr all the time when i pushed it down i wont have to do this. I would hate to be at an intersection and kill it trying to take off in too high a gear and not be able to gget it restarted.
ive done that on every single manual truck ive owned. The reason being, first, i always start the truck witn my foot on brake or the parking brake is on. If either, or both are on, the truck wont start, too much torque for the starter to overcome. I see the positive side to this mod though. Reduced wear on your thrust bearings in the motor during startup and if for any reason, your truck wont start, but you need to move it in an emergency, you can put it in gear and use the starter to move the truck. To that end, i cant tell you what wire to cut (sorry, i havent done it on my 99 SD yet). I would look at a wiring diagram in a haynes manual and see what wire needs to be jumped (not cut) to disable the clutch switch.
I believe the safety switch is the one on top of the pedal assembly. I haven't done it, but it should just be a matter of jumping the wires in that plug.
The reason your truck sometimes doesn't start is probably because the plastic bushing is worn that attaches the Z-bar to the clutch pedel. Thus causing the clutch to not completely depress eventough the pedel is all the way down. Or you may have too thick floor mats- these are the most common causes I've seen. I wouldn't jump the wires (it's a safety issue)
Had a Toyota 4x4 with a "clutch start disable" (something like that) switch on the dash. Great when wheeling and stall on the side of a mountain, put it in first release the clutch turn the key and don't need 3 feet for 3 pedals to get going. I thought it was great. I would try to short across the switch on the clutch pedal with a simple single pole single throw switch so you are not bypassing any "safety features" but have the option when it is warranted. I for one usually know what is in front of me and how to properly start my truck so I don't thing I will be running over any minivans full of kids, moms, and groceries.

I was about to mention that you can run a switch that disables the neutral safety switch but whip already did that.
To do it you need to jump the two wires and put a switch between the jump, this way you can disable the neutral safety switch. Also, when you are manually disabling the switch then you are aware of the fact that the truck should be out of gear and your foot on the brake.
Well thanks for all the input guys. I jumped the wires and put a switch between them on the bottom of the dash so i can turn it off so it wont start. But i got it to start without the clutch. thanks
