hello, im trying to decide what brand of tire. im putting the edge 4.5" lift this week. im getting 16.5" outlaws. but im having a problem on which 35 to get i dont do alot of wheeling so swampers are out agressive but highway friendly if there is anything out there.
mck,any 35's will make the truck look good but with the 5.4 and 373's you'll kill it IMO! Looking good amd performance is 2 things to consider. Months ago my 02 with a 5.4 with 4.10's and a 6 speed was fitted with BFG's 285 16 which come at around 34 inches and I noticed a major difference in performance acceleration wise even with a close ratio 6 sd manual. trimman
I think he ment you are going to need to regear, you will burn the tranny up with having those big tires, the 5.4 already needs the 4.10s and that is on stock 31s, I would look into at least some 4.56s, you are looking at some big money! 33s wouldn't look near as good with the tall lift you are getting, so re-gearing seems like your only option, with these trucks having such a tall od gear I would look into something more like 4.88s or deeper! Your 5.4 is going to act like a 4-cylinder after the lift and tires, sorry to bring bad news, it is going to look great though.....

You are running 33s with 3.55 rear and a 6 cyl. How does yours pull.
If mck2000 goes from 31s to 35s it is only A 15% increase, if you apply that to the rear gears, 4.30s are close. Comes out to 4.29

mck, S Miller is on the money with the gearing aspect with the 5.4. Great engine and gas mileage to boot but not meant to be overtaxed by over sized tires. On the same idea neither is any of the the larger engines without the gears? Don't get me wrong! It will fit 35's even in a stock layout but you still have to turn them? Doing that means gears more than HP in the larger engines as they'll lug in gear also, reduceing mileage and power. I just love the 5.4 and as SMiller said it needs some gears so I order mine with the 4.10's.trimman
Bordaine, just saw your post after I posted. As I said it will work, but how well? I had an F250 88 5.0 with 3.55 gears and put BFG's 33X1250 16.5 AT's. Even with the 5sp manual the tires killed the truck! My 99 5sp 5.4 with 4.10's faired a little better when I bumped up to the 285 Dunlops as they aren't as tall as the BFG's285's. You pick your tires and live with them! trimman
just want to say thanks for the imput. i think im going to change my mind . try to do somthing else smaller lift. what about 33. same boat? this stinks. please keep it coming.
I run 35's on my truck and I think the performance is better with them on compared to the stockers I run through the winter. I usually tow a trailer that weigh's 5-12Klbs loaded daily and have no trouble. I usually start in granny low when pullin the trailer though.
Desert ford you said you have 35's on your truck with a 6" lift. Is this a two wheel drive? If it is not you must have an awful gap between the tires and the fenders. some SD 4x4's around here run 35's with no lift and 38's easy with a 6" kit. How do you like your gibson exhaust? Does it make muck noise?
If trucks are running 35s stock and 38s with only 6" of lift they must never leave the street. I can get my 35s to rub bad under a 4" lift off road.....6" would be better since I would no longer rub.
My truck is a 2wd not a big gap 35's fit good with 6"lift Got the gibson exhaust free for letting them use my truck for a fit test. It isnt real loud just a little throater
