Originally posted by DCSpecial If trucks are running 35s stock and 38s with only 6" of lift they must never leave the street. I can get my 35s to rub bad under a 4" lift off road.....6" would be better since I would no longer rub.
DCSpecial your 4' lift springs must be pretty soft. I have the 2.5" leveling kit from tuff-country (5 leaf add-a-leaf) and I have only once rubbed a 35 on the fender insert during a hard right going to fast for the terrain. I also might not have any where near the travel you do because the setup is pretty stiff. But I need stiffness when I carry my plow in the winter.
Desertford:
What 6" lift do you have, Fabtech or Pro-Comp? I've got the Pro-Comp 6" on my 2WD but I wasn't quite satisfied with the lift in the front so I added the Daystar 2" urethane spacers below the coils. At 8", The lift is just where I want it now. With 35's, I've never had a tire rub, even off road. What are your thoughts on regearing? I see you have 3.73's, I have the same.
Bordaine, to awnser your question my truck handeles the 32s just fine, I think the big thing is weather or not you have a manual, the 300 makes killer low end, I don't give it gas, just come off the clutch easy and roll into the throttle, if someone had the 6-speed behind there 5.4 or 6.8 they could run 38s and have 3.73s, there are such low gears in the tranny, instead of taking off in second you could take off in first or low, granted you would have a near usless 5th or 6th, but you would still have plenty of gears to get going, have you drove\ridden in a 6.8 w\4.30s? There is a pretty big differnce between them and the 3.73s, granted the 6.8 has pretty good low end power, I pull trailers everyday and really care about sitting there and burning up clutch packs and the torque converter vs. having a low first gear that just takes off. My bosses wife has a '04 SD with a 5.4 auto 3.73s and just to maintain speed it is always kicking in and out of od, it really needs to have the od somewhere right in between, kinda like what the 4.30s would give you. It would be nice if you could get the 4.30s with the 5.4, seems to be about the perfect gear for the stock 31s.
V10 doubletow I have the fabtech 6' lift I rub turning I think due to I am using the stock rims. Havent hammered it off-road yet I am always towing my toyhauler when i am in the desert. About re gearing I dont know My truck seems to have power and it tows good my only Question is if I am hurting my tranny. what are your thoughts
Oops! I meant rubbing tires on fenders. I have stock wheels also. Mine don't rub on the fenders but at full lock they rub slightly on the radius arms and sway bar. I have the stock radius arms. I understand that the Fabtech radius arms are offset inward to prevent rubbing.
Took a peek at your gallery and saw what you tow. Looks nice! What are you towing?... 9,000 pounds maybe? 3.73's would probably be OK with that.
I'm at 55K miles and I've never had tranny problems, even towing 14K with the 3.73's. Only use OD on flat highway. I switch it off below 55-60 and when approaching hills.
I just put 305 70 16's on 10" wheels on my f250. I have the 5.4 auto, with 4:10 gears. I really can't notice any power differance what so ever. I switched from 235 85' 16s on steel wheels. The new tires are 33"s tall ,and the old ones are 31.7"s tall, not much difference. I just wanted a wider tire.
Could you please post some photos of your F250 with the 305 tires on 10" wheels? That's exactly the size tire/wheel that I'm thinking of purchasing, and I haven't seen that combination (with no lift) in any of the posted pic's.
or...If anyone else can point me to a photo of this set-up that I've missed I'd appreciate it!
You can't go wrong with BFG All-Terrains. If you need a great deal on tires and are getting new wheels anyway this may work for you (depending on where you live). Here in AZ the H2 Hummer posers are all getting 20" or bigger custom wheels and tires (completely defeats the real purpose of the vehicle!). Go to the H2 dealer and give them $450 for the stock wheels and tires (BFG 315/70/17), get 17X10 wheels (American Eagles are a great value) and sell the stock H2 rims on Ebay for $200 as well as your current rims and tires for whatever you can get for them. My total upgrade price $150!

Sure can, if I could figure out how to do so. I have a couple quick pix but I don't know how to upload them.
great idea, but now im thinking it all over because im being told that ineed to regear .so im going to keep the truck for maybe 2 years and go get a psd. maybe as soon as june if the rebates come up.
My bad! Just a note to those involved in this thread, my truck as all mine were carry a daily load of a 1000lbs or more and is not a Sunday driver running empty and that might just be why I definetly notice a difference with tires and gears. Empty, you probably wouldn't know the difference but who buys and drives a Super Duty empty? trimman
Hey I am looking for opinions. I currently have 35" Conti trac mud tires and I need to replace 2, however I have found that they are no longer making this size for a 16.5 wheel. I have also checked General tires since the tread pattern is the same and found that they're supply of this size is few and far between. I ordered 2 BFG's instead and when the other 2 Conti's wear down if I'm happy with the BFG's I will order two more. What does everyone thing of the BFG's? How well do they wear? The size is 35x12.50x16.5 in the MT/KM tread?
