No start 88' 5.0

suggestions welcome.

It started about a week ago, I was driving through a intersection, turning right, and as I put the accelerator down my truck just bogged like I was getting no fuel. I let off the gas and she went smooth to idle. Again, I laid into the accelerator(smoothly) and bogzilla. I drove straight home but noticed that if I tried to give her too much throttle she would bog down like she was gonna die if I didn't let off. Problem seemed to go away while troubleshooting in the driveway. Sounded too much like a tps, so I changed it and cleaned out the throttle body. Nope. Not it. Just yesterday it did it again, after driving a few miles- too much throttle-truck would bog down. Hmmmmm. Let's put some fresh fuel in her belly. And after I gave her a slight rev with the clutch in to announce the arrival to the gas station, it happened. My truck died. Well AAA just lost some money on me! So off I went looking for a fuel problem. Aha, the fuel filter is old and dirty. Nope. So, here I am looking for a most likely fuel problem but now it looks like I have no spark. Fuel pump runs and pumps fuel(checked it when changing filter ). I have fuel in the fuel rail. I'm using the fresh tank of fuel(dual tanks). I pulled a spark plug and tried to get spark at cylinder then at coil. Tried both the jacob's ignition and then patched in the original coil---no spark. I'm in the middle of wrestling out the ignition module off the distributor but the little bugger has some off sized deep well bolts. I'm frustrated and am about to "remove" the module via caveman style. Any suggestions before I overlook something? Prethanks, 4x.

The module is a decent place to start at. There is a special tool for that, besides that the only socket I have ever found to fit in there is a Snap-On 7mm deep socket, 1/4" drive. And yes, I tried other brands. The ignition module tool is available at most parts stores, or if you see a tool truck at a shop.

Sounds like a bad pick-up coil inside of the dizzy.
Could be a TFI module though. About $43.00.

Good news! I changed the ignition module on the dizzy (with a little help from the auto parts store happy tool) and the ole' girl screamed back to life. I mean the starter didn't even get one revolution and braaahhhhoooom. I love my truck. This was the first time in over a decade(since I've owned her) that she's ever left me sittin'. The initial stutter was the dirty fuel filter and old gas and the module was just ready to go(I guess). I did notice the when I pulled the old module off, that the dielectric grease was hard and crusty. I wonder if it created enough of a gap from sitting so long and hardening that it was an insulator??Thanks to everyone for the input.
