I have a 92 explorer, and i dont know when the plugs and wires were replaced last lookning old so am going to do it, the problem is the passenger side how do i get those 3 plugs out and the wires off the plug the drivers side looks ez, do i need any specail tools or anything am goign to do the wires as well
The only one that's difficult is the in the back. Don't even thing about getting to that one from under the hood. Go through the wheel well. Other than that it isn't a difficult job. No special tools are needed, but if the wires are as old as you say, they may put up a fight.
I just did the one through the wheel well, and I didn't remove the plastic piece. I just used the exhaust manifold as a reference and felt around for the plug. The front two should be pretty easy to get to from the top.
I have one more quick question what is the size of the socket you used on the spark plugs? Also i'll ussume you used some extensions for the one you have to get in the wheel well how long? I just wanted to see if i could get the wires off of one spark plug i could with a little bit of twisting and pulling it came right off. Also is there anyting else i should replace while am doing this
Dont forget to put anti-seize lubricant on the Spark plug threads. If you dont, when the next time you change the plugs they might not want to come out and play. If you dont mind spending a few extra bucks get a spark plug socket, it has a small rubber insert built into the inside of the socket designed to cushion the plug and makes life easier.
