I was driving home today and going up the hill about 3 miles from my house I started losing power. I then started to lose throttle response, coasted over the crest of the hill and she pretty much died right there. I tried to start it back up, but to no avail. Luckily my g/f was with, so I had her turn it over while I proceeded to remove the air filter and check spark at the coil. All was well.
Great. Here we go with the EFI system.
Not one of my stronger areas. Anyways, I did pretty much all I could think to do. Turned the key to Acc, fuel pump kicked on, Disconnected the line @ the fuel filter (which is new BTW,) Pressure, Good. Jumped the fuel pump diagnostic lead to ground; and on they went. Okay, sounds like there's hope. Reset the inertia switch and..... Voila.
Everything seems to be just fine now, thank goodness. What could cause this? All my life driving Fords, and this has never happened. Although all is well, should I just go on and be happy or are there some possible causes which may warrant some looking into? I sure don't want it happening again if you know what I mean.! Thanks.
If the inertia switch is tripped, the fuel pumps will not turn on at all. Test your TFI module, they are prone to heat induced failure when mounted on the distributor.
Take a fuel pressure test. When my pump went, i still had pressure, just not enough. Take a plug wire off and see if you have spark, that would be a large help.
