I have a '73 F350 w/360cid FE block, 4spd 435 gearbox (not a Warner T18). I want to R/R the 360 with a 300cid from a '71 F100, utilizing the same 435 box. (I do have the bell housing and 3spd crashbox from the '71 F100). I did some detective work. The clutch assy P/N's for both applications match. The pilot bush/brg #'s differ, although the ID of the two appear to be identical by measurement at a local parts supplier, telling me that the O.D. of the input shafts match. Does anyone know or can find out for me, if the bell housings are the same or can be used with this combo, I.E. are the block/box bolt patterns the same and is the length/depth. I'll worry about engine mounts later, if it is even a worry. By the way the 360 is realativly fresh, less than 5K miles and I won't need it anymore. Please advise, thanks. G.
Do you have the 300-6 bellhousing off??? If so, measure the parts you are questioning, post the measurements, and I can tell you if it will fit. They will not interchange between motors, but they might interchange between trannys so you can just move the bellhousing with the motor to the new truck. I don't know about the 3 speed, but the 435 and T-18 bellhousings will interchange, I don't see why the 3 speed one wont fit. I just happen to be doing the opposite right now, I'm pulling out a tired old 300-6 and replacing it with a 360 from one of my parts trucks.
Thanks BA and NE for your repies. I forgot to mention, the '71 I6/3spd train is not at the same current local as the '73 360/NP 435 combo truck right now, so I can't eye *&%# anything right now. I do know that if I do a search for parts at the local vender, if the F350 was OEM w/an I6, it could have a 3spd, T18 or NP435 behind it from the factory. Further, I did some research w/Ford dealer parts counter locally. His Fische was kina crappy and could not Vfy a P/N for the 360 bell, but he only had one P/N listed if it were/and for a '73 I6/manual combo, which is (if true), leads me to believe that the bell behind the I6/3spd combo may/should allow the NP435 to bolt up??? Any other reenforcing repies would be appreciated, thanks again.
