thanks Bad.

well
turns out a friend of mine has an e-brock manifold...
will that make more power between 1000-3000/3500 than the stock manifold?
What are they worth used? He's not sure how much to ask, and I'm not sure it's gonna fit my budget.

I love holleys. Will always make more power than an Edelcrap. Sadly, I run a 600 edelbrock on my 390 as it's the only carb I get mileage with. In all reality though, small street and economy carbs are the same darn thing. When you get into the higher end stuff Holley's got the best.

The only difference you'll see in that power range, is the lessened load on your front springs. Virtually no difference that you'll be able to feel in performance, this applies to the Performer, and the older single plane ( actually a step back in that rpm range) Streetmaster.

Like averagef250 mentioned, the ebok(or carter design) carbs seem to be better mileage carbs. I did some home testing on the street between an old carter and a Holley. I like the overall higer rpm power of the holley over the carter. Maybe I could have tuned the carter more, but I just like the Holleys. Kinda like Ford and Chebby...it's a matter of personal preference. Chyrsler ran Carters back in the 60's on all there factory hot rods, so they aren't too bad.

As for tuning....all the Holley parts will fit on that 500 cfm 2bbl. It's just a 4bbl missing a couple holes. The jets/pumps/squirters will all fit. You can tune to your hearts desire.

As for manifold, if it's a Performer RPM, then it's a upper rpm manifold. You would want the Performer, which is a dual plane, low rpm manifold.

ok, so, I mention what I'm contemplating to a friend, who's brother is selling...

e-brock performer(not rpm) $130...
Holley truck avenger 670 $200...
Ceramic Hedmans $100...
Hughes 2300 convertor $100

I think I'll jump on the headers, would like some advice on the manifold, and kinda scared of used carb or used convertor.

My tranny does need a rebuild, I put some Lucas stop slip 'snake oil' in it to fix horrendous(sp?) slip and 'won't go into gear for a while' issues.. but, I don't know how long that is gonna hold it together.
For all the trouble of pulling it apart, I figure a convertor should go in.

Bla bla bla... sorry for rambeling...
