feul guage accuracy

I just got a 96 150 that has a floating fuel guage. When I'm driving, the needle moves around quite a bit. When it is parked it reads about an eighth to a quarter tank higher. Which is the true reading? Thanks for the help.

Sounds like your sending unit is gone.
