i have had my '01 v10 4x4 cc for 2 weeks and i have to say that it is superior to the psd. my father has the '00 powerstroke and after driving them both, the v10 rules. i am very happy with this truck, best truck i've ever owned.
i didn't mean to stir any ill emotions but i'm pretty sure that the v10 KICKS #####. when i bought the truck i was expecting big gas bills, you we're right that is the only drawback!!
Here we go again! Dover, do you enjoy controversy? Enjoy your diesel. The rest of us will enjoy fresh air! Oh, and by the way, the expression "----- Rule!" went out in the 80's! Does the word cavitation mean anything to you?

I will take the psd any day
look thru some previous posts
right now diesel is 1.48 and I get 14mpg with an auto supercab
gas is 1.39 and I only was getting 10mpg with a 5spd reg cab
which is better??????????????????
Yeah well, you can smell my diesel fumes as I pass you when the turbo spools up!Hope you like your gas guzzler, but I'll rock on with the old 'Stroker.

Soon to have K&N air filter,chip,new downpipe,headers and straight piped 4 inch exhaust.Considering a conversion to 4WD.
I think it also depends on where you live. Where I am, gas is $1.50 and diesel is $1.94. I think for a few hundred over invoice, saving about 7000 by not going with the diesel, and the gas price difference, my V10 was worth it.
Why does this topic become a pissing contest every time someone states a preference???
We all love our trucks the same and we each have our own PERSONAL preferences!!!
This constant BS regarding which engine is better really sucks!!
I have one of each and depending on the use, I rely on them for different needs.
Both engines are BEST IN CLASS and the fact of the matter is the Super duty Series Trucks and HANDS DOWN the Baddest Truck in the Land!!!!
Please try to remember that this Crap really brings everyone who reads it down and takes away from the true meaning of this entire web site.
If you want to Dig dirt lets focus on the real Pieces of SH_T out there SHIVY & Dogde. That would be a lot more fun to read>>>
Well this usually gets started with the PSD guys touting this great fuel mileage. They always seem to forget that they're already lighter in the pocket by $4000. Add another $1000 to finance the extra $4000 for 5 years. So as I see it they're in the hole $5000 when the truck is paid for. At the previously mentioned price and mileage of $1.39 and 10 mpg the PSD guys are spotting us 28776 miles before they start saving money on fuel. This of course doesn't count fuel additives psd fellows use and double the price of an oil change.
Another way to break it down into greater detail is to look at the cost per mile. As another poster put it on another forum:
14mpg @ $1.48 = .106 cents per mile fuel cost
10mpg @ $1.39 = .139 cents per mile fule cost
The difference is .033 cents per mile difference in fuel costs. (see the PSD is cheaper per mile)
Now take the $4000(forget the extra $1000 in interest for now) up front and divide it by the difference (.033)(4000/.033) and you get 121,212 miles to break even. If you add the interest you'll come up with 151,515 miles. Remember I'm using the PSD guys mileage and fuel costs numbers.
Remember if you remove the $4000 option cost the the PSD is cheaper per mile to drive. But geez, to hard for me to forget 10% of my vehicle costs.
Bottom line we all drive great trucks!!!

Finally, a comparison that is realistic! I agree with you Rob. Moreover, my buddy's PSD's mileage is not so great. When loaded, it is better than my V10 but not $4000 worth. Actually Rob, I did the same comparison and found that it would take around 186 000 miles to make the diesel pay off ( taking into account the price of fuel, oil filters and changes(@230 quarts V10 versus 500 quarts PSD for 100 000 miles) as well diesel fuel filters(4 per 100 000 miles). If a person plans on owning the truck for 10 years or more then the PSD might be worth it assuming that the rest of the truck will make it. It is a matter of choice.
You guys are all so funny! I love to read all the posts on V10 vs PSD. I can see all of you struting around like pea***** with your feathers all puffed up.
At first I was so confused - how would anyone ever know what to buy?!? But then I realized that they are both GREAT TRUCKS and which ever one choses you really can't lose. The bottom line is that it's just a matter of opinion, there really is no best - THEY ARE BOTH BEST!
But you all continue hashing it out....... I would really miss the entertainment.
Carole.
'99 F350 CC LWB 4x4 PSD , which I love! (should I have told you that?)
Sorry Carole, but I have to ruffle a few more feathers
Ben Towe, I didn't know that your truck was a 1997 F250! That changes everything. The PSD had 215Hp @ 2600 RPM and 425 lb-ft. @ 1800 RPM! How can you call the V10 high horsepower/low torque when the V10 has the same torque and walks all over you for horsepower? Seriously, did you know the specs for that year?
All I can say is "Thanks for coming out!"
