I have a 1999 F350 Crew Cab 4 WD dually. I now have 54,000 miles on it. Before the 36,000 warantee the motor developed a noise. The dealership said it was a sticky valve and bad gas. I changed the oil and put in an octane booster. The noise went away. At 45,000 I bought out my lease and during the safety inspection the dealership denied me the extended warantee because there was a noise in the moter. They said it was a sticky valve. I did the same thing. Changed the oil and added an octane booster. The noise stopped. The salesman discouraged me from purchasing the extended warantee. It now has 54,000 miles on it and the noise came back. I motored over to my trustee dealership to have them tell me I have a bad motor. Probably a rod. I need a new motor. $6,500. and no warantee. Needless to say I was pissed. Since I changed the oil myself, and every 3500 miles or so, I do not have receipts. They told me they do not believe me. I asked around and the machine shops tell me the crankshafts tend to bend. The dealership has replaced several motors but in trucks that were under warantee. Does anyone have any knowledge of other v10 problems. It seems this truck is too new for the machine shops to have a history on the motor. It sounds like a bad design.I have also had numerous problems with alignment and 4wd computer failure, as well as bad shocks and brake failure andallready replaced the brakes and a new rt front rotor.I use this truck for light duty work and tow occasionally. I look foward to any comments.
Do you have the recipts from when they serviced it for that problem before 36K
it may be covered as a preexisting problem ??
call ford motors and give them hell
there were a lot of v-10 motors replaced under warranty
possible that you could try an other dealership??
toredor red oo PSD. Thanks for the reply. No unfortunately when I brought it in I just went to the service drive and they told me it was just a sticky valve or bad gas. I left and changed the oil. That did take care of it for a short while. It seems they were just trying to get me further out of warantee. I read on this site about the TSB for early piston slap. I am trying to locate where I can read and print that so I can take it to them or someone else. Any ideas? email just gotta draw(No Email Addresses In Posts!) Thanks
