well, i wear flight deck boots, and they last a long time, unless you spend a lot of time on the roof(carrier flight deck), then you can go through a pair in a 6 month cruise and need new ones, just depends. not sure who makes them, i think bates, but if you were close i could get you a pair on base.
If you are using them for work i have found that WOlverine are the best-- If you get a pair make certain that you get durashock soles and not the new compressor as if feel- just my opinion.l they are not as comfortable. Wolverine wear really well..
Doc Martin's Industrial is my work boot of choice. I've had to wear safety boots for the last 20 years and I find the Doc Martin's are the most comfortable.
I work in a heavy truck repair environment and I usually get about 1 year out of a pair of boots, no matter what makes/brand they are.
For me, it all comes down to comfort. If I have to be wearing them 8 to 12 hours per day, I don't want sore feet at the end of my work day.

I' wear doc's almost exclusively.. I've got 3 pairs of steel toe doc's and I love em..
i just buy justins and wolverine i can only get about 1 year out of mine but i abuse them they are the only ones that will last a whole year never tried the red wings though wal-mart never has anything that fits me everything is always too small
I have two pair of redwing boots one is 10years old
and other is 12 years old I like e'm but there old
and beat up but tuff as nails.O yeah and I wear
the 12year old pair to work.
My Wolverine boots from Walmart, Made In China, proved to be junk like most stuff that comes today from China or Walmart. The boots split in the soles, the stitched seams ripped, and the glued stuff came loose. If you can not tell by the photo, the soles are almost brand new.
Not for construction sites. I took mine apart after it split and the only thing between your foot and the ground is the soft rubber sole and the liner. If you stepped on a nail in a thin spot, it would go right through.
My Carolinas, feel pretty good for a work boot, not the best, but, they last. I have to get a new pair "solely" because I have worn the heel, which is very hard, down past the rivets. Had them for close to two years and they were used (and free) when I got them.
Right now I am trying to find something good made in the USA for between $100-$150 with a steel toe, all leather sides, at least 9 inches tall so they go way under my safety (chain saw) chaps, AND a side zipper.
My vote goes to RedWings. I quit buying them for awhile when they stopped lining them with the real soft thin leather. I bought a pair of Timberlands, not knowing they were made in China, and the soles fell off in a couple months. They replaced them and I've been trying to break them in for about four months. A $140.00 pair of boots shouldn't need broken in . RedWings never did...
I've been wearing Rocky Boots every day for 20 years (land surveying) very lightweight, dry and warm. Codura is easier to maintain than leather. Come home and take the hose to 'em. No muss no fuss!
Oh! I forgot, they usually last 18 months to 2 years of EVERY day wearing. Ask a pod(what ever you call a foot doctor) and he'll tell
what most of us already know, price is not a option when it comes to your feet. What you save on cheap boots now you'll pay to the pod-dude later.
Thanks for your help guys. There is a lot of good information here. I am currently narrowing it down between Doc's and recwings. I've heard that the Docs are very comfortable but do they hold up well also? These will be worn every day on a crop/livestock farm where I also do a lot of metal working and repair work.
