Unhappy Any Suggestions

Folks, I need help with a identification problem. I have a 97 Expedition 4x4 with the 4.6 engine. The overdrive portion of the tranny has gone south and I need to get it rebuilt. My problem is I cannot figure out which tranny it has. There are alot of aftermarket improvements/suggestions and I want to make the improvements it needs. Does anyone have any idea how to identify which model it has. I intend to have it rebuilt by a professional shop but I am going to Rand R it myself. By the way I am located in East Tennessee.

it is a 4r70W. Just trying to save you some money here, doesthe o/d light blink? Do the rest of the shifts seem to be at the same spot, or are they different? Does you speedo work right? If the shift spots are different, and your speedo works it could be the TPS sensor telling the PCM module you are giving it more gas than what you are, making it stay in overdrive. If your speedo is kinda flaky, the tranny is not getting the correct speed, so it think you are going a different speed, thus not shifting into overdrive. Are any of the shifts hard? Is the check engine light on?

Smile Thanks

Thanks for the info, the tranny shifts smooth through the low end but when it hits about 40 and tries to shift into OD it refuses to go in. On occasion it will go in to OD but won't stay. About 99 percent of the time the tranny just slips. I have already had all the switches checked and according to the transmission shop they were all ok. Yes, the OD light just started blinking a couple of weeks ago. The OD had been out for at least a month before it started doing the blinking thing. I don't know what is causing it but again the tranny shop said it was something inside the tranny causing the problem. The thing on the end of the shift column that holds the OD button switch in place popped off and broke a couple of days ago so now I have to go buy one of them. My daughter has been driving back and forth to work about a 12 mile round trip and as long as you don't try to go over 40 -45 it moves, but you can feel it being held back. I hate to think about having to invest a bunch of money into a rebuild, but it looks like I don't have much of a choice.

Take it down to a autozone or advance autoparts and have them pull the codes. Post back with what they are. Could simply be a selonoid pack, which you could go to a junkyard or to ford and get new and replace yourself.
