transmission

hello all! would it be worth the time and money to change my existing automatic transmission to manual? ive got the 4.6 v8 with 97k on it. can it even be done? at another glance, does the ford company even make f-150's with a manual v-8? if so, where can they be found?

thanks,
bigjoey

yes ford does make a v8 with a manuel. thats why they still make the heritage edition truck. cause they do not offer a v6 or v8 manuel in the new body style. as for finding one it just depends on how much time and effort you want to put in it. my self and for what all my friends say they hate shifting in town all the time and say they would not get a manuel in an every day car or truck. i have an auto and agree with them.

okay, so the heritage edition is the only model f-150 that has a manual v8? i can understand how shifting in town all the time would be a hassle. however, im not in town too much. so i dont think ill have to worry about that. is a manual v8 faster than an auotmatic v8?

thanks,
bigjoey

i have only rode in a V6 automatic. it was ok. but in 2005 be looking for a manual trans available in the new body style with a V6 and V8. you might be a littler quicker and get a little more miles to the gallon. but all the work you would have to go through to get the manual in your truck might not be worth it when you can get a programmer or a chip for alot less money and time installing.

so, are you saying that it might be better to get a programmer or a chip instead of a manual transmission?

on a side note, like your truck! how does it sound with no muffler? i got true duals with 40 series single chamber flows/turndowns. its sounds great, but for me, i need my truck to be even louder.

also, what is the STX air valence? air ride system? i know that may sound stupid if im wrong, but i dont know too much about any of the names for most of the mods.

thanks,
bigjoey

yes if i were you i would go with a chip or programmer. you will save money and alot of time. as for my exhaust i just have a y pipe and it is pretty loud. you can set car alarms off with it. i cant wait to see what it sounds like with a set of headers. i would recomend no mufflers. the air valence is the part that hangs on the bottom of the front bumper. some people call them air dams as well. i wanted this air dam mainly because it was a factory part and it looked good. i will have new pics of my truck on here next week with my pin stripping job and stuuf that the pics i have on here now dont have.

try putting layers in your decals. get a second layer with purple and that will look awesome! do you know how the guy removed the stripes of your truck? cause i want to get them removed off my truck. they look tacky to me and i figured if the process is not too difficult i could do it myself.

none around here. never been pulled over for loud exhaust plus the mufflers have nothing to do with emisions comeing out of the traukc. thanks for the sompliment on the truck. i will have some new pics comeing soon. maybe next weekend after i get my lower billit grill put in and my stripping job done. i plan to lower it by july. i also seen a lambo door kit i want to put on it.

I own a F150 with a manual. Its a 99, ext cab, 4x4, 4.6 v8 XLT sport. It was very hard to find and a very nice driving truck. It came stock with 17" rims and factory quiet exhaust. I took it in and had my quiet exhaust cut off and run a SINGLE 3" pipe from where the front exhaust pipes come together (right under the box) to a flowmaster muffler. I kept the stock look, but its a 3" pipe hanging out. Its sounds great, especially with the manual trans. And for you whiners, I drive in city traffic quite often, having made several trips to Detroit and Chicago downtown districts. I drive in city traffic almost every day. There are 2 kinds of people, those that like a manual trans and those that dont. If you like a manual trans, you dont care where you are driving (city or hwy). I was shopping for a new truck, I like the new body style on the f150's, but then I found out they dont offer a manual, so now I am shopping for a Superduty with the manual trans. I must be one of the few people around that would pay extra for a manual. I just absolutly will not own an automatic.

f=2504by497 alot of peoepl like the spoiler. thanks for the compliments on the truck. my outline flame job gets finished on friday. where do you live around here?? i live in the township on the corner of liberty fairfield and princeton rd. maybe we can ge together sometime and talk trucks.

jeffdoerr, dont be so fast on going to a superduty just for a manuel. the new body style F150 will offer a manuel trans and V6 in 2005. and who said we were whiners about the manuel. i got friends that have manuels and they hate driving them everyday. but there are some people out there that do like to drive on everyday. they are fun to drive but i wouldnt do it everyday. i wnat a mustang and it will be a second vehicle. it will deffinetly have a 5 spd in it. lots of fun to drive in a sports car.
