Read Differential Problems 1998 F-250
I have a 1998 F-250 Light Duty 4x4 extended cab. I have 122,000 kms (76,000 miles) on it and have had to get the pinion bearings (and other bearings/parts I can't remember) 3 times since new. Approx. every 30,000 kms (18,000 miles) the rear end has started howling and needed this work. Its now on the fritz again (the 4th time) and the truck is also shuddering when accelerating from a dead stop in a turn. I'm told this is the clutches in the rear end. I'm trying to tell the dealer who has the truck right now (they did the rear end last time) that simply replacing the bearings again isn't the only solution. Have any of you had this experience, or is my truck just a lemon?

I would take the rear end to a driveline shop and have them do it. I think they are a little better than ford. My buddy had his D70 redone for 1200, everything. He ran her dry until it did not move anymore, a dodge owner.
