99 F-350 4x4 disaster
If it ain't broke why fix it?
I brought my 99 F-350 CC V10 4x4 auto. ESOF with 24k miles to the dealer with the following symtom. While in 4 high at around 30mph when I let of the accelerator I can hear what I would describe as a grinding noise, similar to a shot wheel bearing from the front end.
It has been to 2 dealers in an attempt to fix this.
So far the latest dealer has replaced all the wheel bearings twice, rebuilt the front diff. twice, replaced the front driveshaft and transfer case, verified the gearing in the rear diff. and finally dropped an axle from a new truck into mine and still the noise remains. The service manager and Ford engineering are stumped and out of options.
They've had the truck for 3 weeks. The Ford customer rep. is now trying to tell me this is normal noise for a superduty. B.S. My opinion is that if it was normal why did they put all that money and time into trying to fix it?
Any words of wisdom?
Steve
