Hello, New to the board.Well been reading it for awhile since my last ranger. But first time posting.
Anyways i just bought a 94 ranger 5/speed and i noticed when i drive down the freeway the spedo needle bounces everywhere and makes some noise.I think the needle is loose.Anyway to fix this or tighten it?
But i was thinking about replacing it with a cluster from another ranger with a tachometer, since mine does not have one.I found a few clusters from the same year but with tachs. Not sure if this will work thou. And what must i do to wire up the tach since my truck currently does not have one. Thanks for any info anyone can give me.
Welcome to FTE. Rangers of this vintage are known for the bouncing speedo needle; it's not a loose needle. Ford issued a TSB some time ago to address this. The fix involves installing a new speedo. If there's any good news, it's not racking up extra miles because of this. I assume that you have checked the speedo cable and it's not the cause.
Thanks for the reply.Honestly i havent checked the cable yet.But will tomorrow. Its just seems to do it on the freeway and the needle shakes and shimmers and makes alot of noise so thats why i thought it might have been the needle.
Does anyone know anything about my other question at all about swaping clusters?
The newer trucks are prewired for the tach but I'm not sure about a 94, you could pull the cluster and check the connector for the wire. Most of the time the clusters are plug and play, I would just go with one from a truck with the same number of cylinders.
Another suggestion..........the oil pressure gauge is really an idiot gauge, meaning that they are designed to read mid range when the oil pressure it greater to or equal to about 7 psi. You can modify the setup to reflect the actual (well, no numbers on the gage) oil pressure. As I recall, you need a different sending unit and maybe a simple mod to the gauge itself (change/add a resistor) is all. You may want to do a search on this subject before ou dig into the project.
