Full length vs. shorty vs. stock manifolds.
any and all opinions welcome. I know this has been covered but I am trying to get a direct comparson and the pros and con of each.

Full length will give you gobs of low end torque. They are great for trucks. The downside? They hang quite low. Often times there are frame interferences. They also require you to bend some custom exhaust pipes behind it. There are two styles of shorty headers. Basic and equal length. The basic look much like stock manifods. Each primary tube from each cylinder is a different length. They provide good mid to upper rpm power. They also normally bolt in, using existing exhaust pipes. Equal length shorties are better than standard shorties. Each primary tube is the same length. That helps to virtually eliminate exhaust crowding (where the exhaust pulses of two or more cylinders enter the collector at the same time. The result, restriction, and loss of power). They are also good for mid to upper rpm power and torque gains (more even curve than basics). Stock manifolds are the worst choice. They have alot of crowding. On some manifolds, two cylinders share the same exhaust exit chamber. Not good.
what would be a good choice of header on a stock 90 F-150, im looking at some long tube headers, just cuz there the cheapest i can find....im prob going to get them out the Jegs...anyone have any other suggestions?
You do realize that you will have to either scrap, or have someone alter that Y to run long tubes right? I think the most popular long tubes are L&L (high quality), and Dynomax. I would imagine that if you searched for long tube headers in this forum, you might get a good idea of whats out there.
thx Rich...yeah i know that new pipe will have to be bent.....I got a guy that'll bend some for about 50$ a side....yeah ive heard L&L are a pretty good deal
I plan on bending my exhaust myself. Maybe it's just the satisfaction of doing it myself. I could get all mine done in under $200. (that includes headers)
79redranger: wish i had a pipe bending machine, that would have saved me alot of $$$ btw...how much does a pipe bending machine cost? im sure there are several diff kinds though
Actually MY shop has a dirt floor, no walls and a big oak tree in the center. Get my drift?
Well i've looked at some and found some decent ones. Some have ranged from as cheap as $200
for a simple hydraulic bender, up to $850 for a more production type bender. But, I plan on using a bender at at our High School Shop to run mine.
I will be investing in more vehicles in the future, and might invest in a bender in the $200-$400 range to run exhaust on those beasts.
