i just made my first step to making my swap to power assist, but im not sure if i made the right move. i bought a box from a 78-79 bronco to make this swap. my truck im swapping onto is a 75 highboy. it seems that the power gear box is made to go down the outside of the frame, and ive only seen these go down the inside of the frame. anyone wanna help me out on this, please give me some advice.
Highboy1975, there's MANY different ways of doing it. Don't dare spend $850. That guy's not helping at all. That's trying to take advantage of a fellow enthusiast in a confusing situation. Call me and I'll help you through it if you like. Let me know and I'll forward my number. If you have the box, everything else shouldn't amount to $100. I'm not a cheapskate but, let's be fair.
big----can i do it using the steering box from the bronco? after i got it and was looking at the boxes, ive only ever seen the 2wd box uses on the power steering conversions, not the 4x4. all i need to do is know how i can mount the box and still have it connect to the drag link. if i cant use the 4x4 bbox withouth cutting into the frame, i'll just go ahead and get rid of the 4x4 box. i know how to do it with the 2x4 box, but the 4x4 box is getting me.
I purchased a kit for $850 and I think I got a deal because when I priced it one part at a time it came out to like $1100. I doing it right though, no used junk yard crap.

My gearbox was out of a 78-79 truck, not a bronco, but there is a thread in the 67-72 forum where an outside frame gearbox was mounted up. I believe off a Dodge, it should give you some ideas.
Use a77.5-79 4by4 box and drag link .It will fit in but you'll have to notch the crossmember.
I junked a 78 not too long ago and I cut that box mounting section out. I figured someone might need it for converting a high boy over. It would make the lob go a lot faster. If tou want it i'll give it to you if you pay the shipping, let me know.
mark---get me a weight for it and ill call fedex and ups and usps for a shipping quote. i really dont see how i can use the bronco box on my truck. i'm going to look at a bronco to see how the box is mounted but i dont see how i can use it without getting into some really custom fabrication. is the box you hae tight? my power assist works pretty well, its just VERY sloppy, i have about an 1/8th turn play in the wheel where its totally dead.
o my bad, what do you want for the box? and what model and such is it off of? fabricating mounts and stuff is no problem really, i have access through my dad to a full machine shop. i just don't see how i can use the gear box from the bronco being that it goes down the outside of the frame rail.
Give me 50.00 and you can have it, i think the pitman arm is still on it too. As with any used part, I would definately rebuild it before putting it in, I certainly can't guarantee it. I'ts a inboard 78 f250 4by4 box.
