"I think a pair of Aussie heads would realy wake up a 400"

What makes you think so?
--------------------------------

"This person just mentioned he'd like some tips for a minor 351 buildup, and suddenly "Aussie heads" are in the fray. It just gets a little irritating after awhile."

This is what was meant by high jacking the thread. New users don't know any better.
-----------------------------

"You can put pictures on the forums by adding them to your gallery"

I've never been able to do this, I've tried many times but can't figure it out.

"Pros: They sound really cool"

They do at first, but the guys I've talked say they get tired of listening to it all the time.

Which part, putting the pictures in the gallery or the posting them to the forum?

The ports are so large on Aussie heads that you won't get much out of them unless you live above 4000 RPM. Also, unless you zero deck the block, you will have MAJOR detonation problems. The deep hole in the factory block all but kills the quench factor with the closed chamber heads.

Zero decking the block then takes the compression ratio up into the 11.5 - 1 range. Now it is necessary to run dished pistons, which will give you a nice quench factor but still major high compression. You won't be living on pump gas, not even 93 octane.

You can run a long duration cam to lower the static compression.

These are the reasons that I said Aussie heads are not a cureall for 335 series engines. It takes major massaging and a good deal of engine knowledge to make them run correctly.

Gallery Problems

The problem is putting the pictures in the gallery. The directions say the first step is to create an album. I try to name and create an album, but it won't go through. It doesn't show me any album created.

Am I reading right?

"The ports are so large on Aussie heads that you won't get much out of them unless you live above 4000 RPM."

How big do you think they are?

Once again, Australian 302C heads do not have larger ports than US 351C 2V heads which are basically identical to Aussie 351C 2V pieces. The only Cleveland heads with large ports are the US & Aussie 351 4V.

Brian,

I show you having 1 album in your gallery. Go to the Galleries page from the Main Menu then click the Manage your Gallery link. Once you get there click the Edit link and you'll get a page with the name of the album and you'll be able to add pics.

Photo Gallery & AU 4V ports

I think I figured it out. The album that was in my album was created quite a while ago from a previous attempt. The edit button would not show up using an AOL browser. Now I just have to figure out the forum codes link for cut & paste.

"The only Cleveland heads with large ports are the US & Aussie 351 4V."

Actually no, ALL the large port heads were made in the US and had to be imported for the high performance Aussie cars.

I'm fairly sure you mean US 4V, but take a look at the Dyno chart for the 377/351C with the Blue Thunder intake. This motor had a BIG roller cam yet managed 410TQ by 3250 RPM. How much more power does a person need?

I think Aussie heads would wake up a 400 because of the increase in compression. If run on the right gas I think it would provide a modest increase in power. Don't thinks its cost worthy thou.

The Forum Codes link appears when you look at an individual picture in the album. It pops up a window with the actual URL in it, all you have to do is cut 'n paste.

From what I've heard Aussie heads CAN(not always) be more trouble than what they're worth. I plan on doing just a moderate rebuild. Just some more power when I need it.
That sounds like i'd need the know-how and lots of money. This truck is just a project for burning money. It'll be just a street truck. Maybe waste an occasional ricer here or there though.

Compression Issues

This is pretty much why I refer to most of the Aussie head swaps as hype. Let's say your 400 has 8.4:1 and you go from a 78cc chamber to the 302C Aussie 58cc chamber. With no other changes, static compression will jump to 10:1.

These numbers may be somewhat pessimistic but desktop dynos are usually a little optimistic. Actual numbers are somewhere in between assuming it runs at all on pump gas.
