My ranger has the extended warranty. I have a $100 deductible, so i was just wondering if i could get them to fix everything in one trip, or if i would have to pay extra.
I want to get the "ping" in the driveshaft fixed, the back of the headliner leaks a little, the drivers door doesnt always lock or unlock with the keypad, and the drivers side power lock button only works sometimes.
These are all pretty small problems, but every penny saved is one more i can spend on the truck.
Unless you have some sweet warranty most or all of those things wont be covered anyway. Ford has 3 or 4 levels I think of ext warranty.
I disagree that they are not worth the money. You are buying peace of mind. Also for me, I usually sell after 4 years or so and when you can do so with a 6X75 warranty (ie 2X whatever at that point) they sell quickly.

Lots of luck on this one.
Under original factory warranty, mine has been worked on twice with little success. Reshimmed rear end (which they found to be way out of tolerance)and then replaced driveshaft (which they found to have excessive tolerance in the slip-yoke). Third time I took it in for this, the Ford Hotline advised the dealer "Do not repair". In other words, if the dealer does manage to fix it, Ford will not reimburse them for it. And this in response to a prevalent problem which Ford has been aware of for some time.
My family has been Ford owners for many years, but life is full of changes, if you get my drift...
Re that "ping" in the driveshaft. I had a transmission mechanic look at that when doing some work on the rear end. He really put a lot of effort into finding it and discovered that it was not driveline related at all. It was actually a little gasket between 2 pieces of the exhaust (about mid point on the truck). When you take off from a stop, the engine torques and moves the exhaust which ends up binding up giving you that little "ping" sound. Replacing the gasket is the only thing that will solve it, he tried tightening the connection with no luck. Now he keeps those little exhaust gaskets on hand in his transmission shop and helps people out with the "ping" problem all the time.

Extended warranties will give you the "warm and fuzzies" as long as nothing goes wrong. They have many exclusions, and as long as you know what you are signing and paying for, it may be something you want. There is a reason all these companies call to try to get you to buy one. And it's not because they are concerned about your welfare. It's because they make a lot of money off extended warranties.
My radiator cracked so im takin it in. I already called and have a reservation for tomorrow morning. The guy said the warranty would cover the radiator, but i forgot to ask about everything else and now they are closed. well, ill find out in the morning and let you know if they fixed everything or not.
