LAST EDITED ON 05-Mar-01 AT 06:58 PM (EST)[p]A trailer pull-off? What's next? "Mine is bigger than yours?!" I am glad that you like your truck but reality is reality. Yes, your diesel will pull a heavier load as it should---you have more torque but as stated by another member, up to 10,000 lbs the V10 will pull that load up a hill faster. Yes, a 15,000lbs is out of the V10's league(though many motorhomes use it) but the Power Stroke will suffer too.
As for the Semi comment--I don't know any Semi that uses the Power Stroke either. Monster trucks use gas engines. So what? I am glad that you like your truck and you have your reasons for owning it. I do not share your enthusiasm as I said before have driven both. I do not need to explain how many trucks, tractors etc... that I have driven or owned.
Instead of bashing the V10, take one out and drive it up a hill with a load. If you still feel the way you do, then great, you have made the right choice.
As for the original question, I just rode in a friends 2 wheel drive and I have to admit that the ride was sure nice. I would really weight your decision on the use. Good Luck!

Fishing Maniac, think again if you don't think anyone uses the Power Stroke. The Navistar 444TE is the same engine and is used in the heavy duty trucks International makes.Yes,Monster trucks use gas engines, mainly because they are easier (and cheaper) to soup up to high horsepower and high torque, but they blow rather easily if you will notice. As I said, drive what you want,I don't care, and I'm sorry if I've been harsh,I get caught up in arguements sometimes.I've no hard feelings and I hope no one else does either.I consider this a civilized argument as I hope you all do.

Ben Towe, most people feel very protective and naturally, I do as well. Truthfully, I enjoy sitting around with the 'guys' teasing the heck out of each other. In this case, however, I was trying to help a fellow reader with a legitimate question. Having someone tell you that they want to pull you around is not what I would consider constructive criticism.
Personally, where I live Diesels are not well liked by many for many reasons such as extreme cold temperatures cause diesel fuel gelling and very long warm up times that really annoy the neighbors. Moreover, many places do not carry diesel, only gas.
I do not have hard feelings but could you take easy on the "pull you around" stuff. I have owned all of the 'Big Three' trucks and can honestly say that the Ford has been the best by far, for towing, reliability and I think, looks.
All the Best to ya!

I believe that having the 4X4 is always worth it. Backing and tight manuvering is VERY hard on ANYONES locking rearend. My travel trailer is 30' and weighs around 7500#. I have the V-10 with the std 3.73 ratio, 4X4, with EC and auto. I don't worry about a "NICE" place to turn around or how steep a grade is. I know that whatever it takes, I'VE GOT IT'. If you are going to keep the truck for over 100,000 miles, the diesel will be the best buy. Under 100,000, the gas is the best buy. Around 100,000, get what you prefer. The overall cost is the same at that point. The gas is more responsive, the pull of the diesel is more steady. With your trailer, you could even settle for the 5.4, even though I wouldn't.
