Would you guys drive this truck?
There is a TSB out to change the spring tip isolators. People seem to be getting mixed results. I had mine changed like 4 months ago and I've been hearing some groaning from the front again the last couple of days. It's been too cold for me to see if that's the problem again or not. Ford has redesigned the springs for the newer models. If you have a good dealer you might want to try to talk them into getting you the new springs.

Good luck with Ford. I used to be a Ch#vy person but not anymore. My vehicle is out of warranty and they are making repairs. I find that the dealer has a lot to do with it. One thing about Ford it seems that they will hold up to their end of the bargain if it is their fault. Oh on another note. Try to have the truck serviced oil grease trans on occasion even if you do it yourself

A buddy of mine had his truck in for a transmission problem and the Ford dealership kept his truck 3 months before they sent it out to an outside transmission shop because ford couldnt figure out what the problem was. After 5, yes 5 attempts, they got the truck fixed before the 4th month rolled around. The ford dealership said they sent it out to a transmission shop because they know best. I was thinking, thats odd that a Ford dealership wouldnt know how to fix their own trucks.

Yes I believe that they did not know the transmission. Just like doctors today everyone is specialized. I had a transmission rebuilt and there were 5 updates to it that the shop performed. I just hope that you friends truck went to a good shop and if Ford will extend his warranty for the time that it was in for repairs.

LAST EDITED ON 02-Mar-01 AT 03:47 PM (EST)[p]C'mon---- A Ch*vy Heavy Duty? Is that an Oxymoron or what! The day that a Ch*vy is as HD as a Ford....that'll never happen!
Oh by the way, my 99' has no problems either just those sqeaky front spring isolators. Paul, I hope that everything works out for you!

fishing,
Yea, I agree with you (note my signature truck below.) My emphasis should have been on NEW. I wouldn't buy any first-year model, but I'm glad your's was a success. There just tends to be too many TSBs to hassle with. Have you seen the Consumer Reports reliability rating for the 1999 Silverado after their major overhaul? I can just imagine what their new ones will be like.

Talk about a first run production! I ordered my '99 SD on apr. 29, 1998, and took delivery on june 4, 1998. I always told myself I would never but the first year, but I nearly bought the first one! There were a few flaws, but I believe my dealer had the best technician ever to grace the floors of a Ford (or any other off brand) service department. I know about the seat belts. Just have the tech disassemble the automatic tensioner to tighten and lube it with some light synthetic oil. A friend of mine had numerous problems with his truck, but after a short (less than a month) trial to fix things, Ford bought it back. He got another just like it, but different color, and could not be happier. The dealer IS Ford when it comes to dealer satisfaction.
