Need help w/oil galley plugs

My driver's side oil galley plug is leaking like a sieve! Sure looked like a rear main until I got it cleaned up. Question is... do I just tighten it up, or take it out and seal it up? Are there O-rings or gasket paper behind it? One last thing.... what tools have you guys used to remove them while engine is in the truck? I can barely get the inspection mirror in there.. let alone any of my 1/2 drives. Thanks... this forum is the best I've found yet!

They have O-rings. I've seen them done on the older (95-97) powerstrokes and it didn't seem that tight. I wasn't paying a great deal of attention to what tool was used though but I think just common hand tools.

RRMike,

Thanks, will have to look into part #s for the o-rings. I am hoping that someone has a quick trick to get a tool into the space between the firewall. I could always jack up the transmission, but....

it is a 1/2 plug too insert in the plug. I use a 1/2 in swivel headed wratchet and sometimes a breaker bar to remove them and install. As far as i know when ive replaced them i couldnt get just the oring. May be different now.

The one I saw done he replaced the whole plug also. I thought about why he didn't just replace the o-ring so now I know
