How long is it taking order trucks to come in these days? I hear mine may be on a material hold and I'm wondering if others are getting the same story. He's what I ordered:
My Dad just ordered a new truck and the dealer said if they called in in directly he could have it in about 4 weeks. His truck is dying so he's in a rush, but I don't think that's a normal thing for them to do.
A material hold could be just about anything, but is usually an optional component. Commonly due to certain cab/color combinations, like a specific colored trim piece for the interior. Do you know what part is causing the hold? Ask the dealer, they should be able to tell you. If it's something you could do without and can add later, like that power slider, then you may want to change your order or cancel and reorder.
I ordered my F250 1-02-04. Dealer called 2 weeks later, said truck was built. It was ready for pickup 2-02-04, I had to wait one day for my bank/insurance, etc. I took delivery 2-03-04. This was the shortest time I've ever waited for an ordered vehicle.
When I ordered my current 2004 F-350 it took for weeks. I ordered it on Oct 2nd and drove it home on Oct. 28th. I too was suprised by how fast it came in. I basically ordered the same truck but with the Lariat package. I guess I'll have to wait for it to show up....
If it is a material hold for the power slider I would wait a while and see what the status is...If you add it later it will be close to $500 to have it installed later...IMHO....I waited for mine glad I did...I love the window.....
P.S. Ordered mine on Sept 5th 03..on material hold for the power sliding window...Released on Sept 29th...Built 10/14 at Dealer 10/23...drove home 10/27...

Found out today that my truck will be in next week. The sales manager still had it for the end of may until I looked at the paper work with him. I guess there's some things you just can't learn behind the desk at the dealership.....
FYI the VOPC, vehicle order processing center is very useful if you have the order # or VIN #. You do need the dealer 5 digit code # which is on every car in the lot so if they won't give it to you just go outside and get it yourself. Wait.... you don't even need to go outside, I'm sure the car on the floor has it on the window sticker too.
I just ordered a 04 F250SD Lariat CC 6.0L FX4 6 speed manual and the dealership told me anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks now. Hopefully it's closer to the 8 or even the 4 to 5 weeks that these guys are saying!
