my 6.0 VS my brothers Duracrap 6.5

ok, ive got 33" BFG all terrains on my 2003 6.0 turbo diesel exented cab, long box 4x4.

my brother has a chebby 6.5 turbo diesel extended cab, long box, dually, with the small ( 245 ) tires.

redlight turns green, he got me on the take off cause i wasnt paying good enough attention. but, before the lane went from 2-1, i cut him off doing @ 55-60 MPH.

i guess my truck has a max of 325 HP and 560torque, does anyone know the figures for the Duracrap?

im planning a mild chip for my truck this summer, maybe like 50 HP, does anyone have any suggestions for a chip i can put in, and remove easily?? @ $300 bucks if possible?

Hey BuiltTough250. So what your brother think about his truck vs.yours. Is he impressed by your truck or is he thinking you had the advantage? Ill let the other gurus answer the question about your chip. Thanks.

Duramax is 6.6, not 6.5. I believe the old version developed 300hp and 540lb ft and the current one is 310hp and 590lb ft of torque.

150FORD- i can just tell that my brother was seriously considering Fords when he bought this truck. he got this one a month before i got mine. he knows that i havent had any serious problems with my trucks, my F250 didnt even blow a fuse in 33,000 miles, and this truck has been perfect except for the computer reflash. he just doesnt like how high the super duties sit compared to chebbys, for some reason he likes his trucks low. I DONT. he also likes all the little girly features that chebby puts on their trucks, i tell him to buy a cadillac then if he wants something low and comfortable.

BUT, he needs to buy a new chip-truck ( dump box on rear for a pull behind brush chipper ) for us to use for tree removal, and i think he might be considering a newer F450.

there was a SWEET one he coulda bought at the state fair last year, F450, diesel, 4x4, aluminum dump bed, plow... and only @ $34,000 i was shocked at the price. brand new. but he wasnt ready to buy at the time.

i guess theres some people who will always be a chebby guy, no matter how many problems they have. his 2000 chevy 3500 diesel had sooo many problems, leaked a qt of oil a week, rear end made funny noises, blew smoke like you wouldnt believe, door hande broke on the inside...
now his new Duramax, at @5,000 miles- the power steering bracket cracked and was rattling around while he drove.

i gave him crap for it having the UGLY front end, but with the pewter color, and the dually/wide rear fenders, it actually doesnt look too ugly.

Thats something i do not understand, people will buy a truck even though their other trucks of the same brand have had problems. Sure i have always driven ford, but i have never had a real troublesome ford though either. My uncles used to have a 01 chebbie 1500 with a 5.3. He went through a tranny, broke something in the rear end. and lots of little stuff went wrong with it. Only had 50K miles on it. Now we purchased our 2000 f250 summer of 00, and the only things that have went wrong in it is the alternator and the ESOF motor. Otherwise basic maitnince, we use this truck for hauling hay and pulling trailors, it always gets worked, and its always ready the next day to take more. My uncle just purchased a new 04 chebbie, had it a week and its back in the shop for weird tranny noises, boy some people never learn.

78FORDMAN- i hear ya on that one.. some people never learn.

between my group of buddies, 3 super duties, 2) 80's F150s, a 2000 dodge 2500 cummins, the only guy who still owns a chevy has had just as many problems, OR MORE than all of us put together. in 2 years hes gone from owning a 99 chebby 1500, an 03 chebby 1500, to an 03 GMC 2500 crew cab diesel.

he's litterally had his trucks in the shop as many times as all of us put together. its funny though, cause he doesnt tow anything, doesnt go off roading with it, and doesnt race it.

its just weird that he doesnt change to Ford.

P.S. 150FORD- my brother has been looking at a F450 for the new chip truck. he told me today itll be 4x4 @ $40,000 new. plus the dump box.

Hey BuiltTough250. Arn't these fords durable trucks. It sounds like your group of friends are a pretty smart bunch. Ford minded except for one. Oh well these chevy guys they will learn the hard way. Through the pocketbook in repair bills. I still have hope for your brother. Probably has seen how your truck is holding up is making an impression on him. When it comes down to the hard and dirty work ford is the right choice. I am sure being around you has influenced him somewhat. He won't be dissappointed in that truck. He will wonder why he didn,t change earlier.

How many People below have just absolutely had it with their 6.0 , been in the shop for months, Quits, leaks, stinks, goes slow, horrible mileage, Ford Cant Fix, so they want to get a buy back so they can get another.. I'd get so far away from a particular Vehicle of ANY make that had given me that much trouble Id never be in one again..Be O.k if the newer ones were fixed, but what Im readinm they are having Exactly the same problems.

Im with you, I just dont get it..

KTM my 6.0 would just stall every couple thousand miles, id start it back up and go. still gets 18MPG, LOTS of power, and has only been in once for a computer reflash and a recall on the injectors or the fuel pressure senser.. not sure which.

anyways i had it back within 24 hours

Heyktmguy70. It is surprising that people are still buying these 6.0 after all these problems Well it probably means there is really no competition out there to compare to the superduty. That is the totol truck period. Areal truck. Check out the superduty forum and the 6.0 l. forum . Everyday that goes by. Less and less problems all the time. Thank god for warranties. You would think people would go to something else. There is nothing else to go to. People love their superduties. Just my thoughts. Thanks.

Well it seems like there have been a lot of problems because thats all that we hear. On this board we hear a lot about people problems. It seems like all the E4OD have t/c problems, all 6.0 have problems, all M5OD's always have leaky plugs, TPS sensors always go out. I think you might see my point. Sure they had higher defect numbers than the 7.3, but there are a lot of 6.0's out there with no problems at all. We just see the bad side of things.

Have been

I have been f-150.. been checking it out for about a year now.. Have seen some people come on here as newbies, Praising their choice in a 6.0, superduty. then after 2 months I have seen the same people Very upset over the issues.. Like I said Before it has been brought up in NATIONAL NEWS.. for a truck motor to have so many problems, that Buyback is routinely discussed, makes national attention.. Then theres just something wrong. People say that the only ones on here are the ones looking for fixes to their problems.. Not the Case I have been around here long enough to see people come on here bragging anout their truck, only to succomb to the lemon law a few months later.

So for ME anyway, as much as I desperately want one, Im holding off for a bit.. I want one VERY bad. BUT.. Im just not convinced on the reliability of these units yet.

Im Glad there are some people with no problems...
Gives me Hope that eventually it will be to the point where I can trust it enough to buy one someday.

Ron
