I just bought a chrome 56 f100 grill (got a great deal), but was wondereing before I dismantle my 54 grill and find out nothing fits, are a 54 and 56 f100 headlight buckets the same? What are the differences? I know the headlight ring isnt, but that not a problem.
Also, in case anyone is interested, I suicided the doors on my Ford.
The sheet metal behind the headlight bucket on the 56 has a depression in it where the 53-55 does not. That would lead me to believe the bucket itself is deeper.
on second thought...the bucket could just sit further back and may indeed be the same , sorry no help!
I installed the 56 grill on my 54. Ditto on the previous about the air deflectors being different. The buckets look the same, but because the lights in the 56 are set in rather than being bugged out, you'll also need to change out the air deflectors. Good luck, John
Re: 54 vs 56 headlight buckets..same??? Also suicide.

Ahhh, another sow's ear being made into a purse. Man, those 54's have an ugly grille!...
Nice job on the doors! I would think the buckets are the same but as the other guys said the air deflectors have a bulge in them to allow for the headlamp set back.
If you want I can measure mine to tell you how much the set back is.
Going to order new ones today tried to save mine but they look like junk. Even bought a pair of 53s not knowing they don't have the dimple for the "X" brace and they are to nice to cut up.
Ok. I took some measurments I don't have any idea how to attach to this reply so I made a new album in my gallery called 56 air deflector hope it helps.
Remember it just has to clear the bucket , I'm not sure what that divot on top is unless it's for the wiring.
Hey, watch those insults or Im going to have to call for a few more blizzards before you are allowed south of the gap!
You doing anything useful up there or just causing trouble?
Carl,
How the heck are you? I haven't seen too much of you on here lately. Guess that means you've been busy. It's still too cold up here to do anything useful so I do what I can to stir things up here. Don't tell me you LIKE 54 Ford grilles...and why would I want to go south of the gap? Is winter over down there in Northern Mass?

I actually don't mind the '54 grilles. When pained the same color as the truck they look quite nice. Dare to be different!
Svoom,
Actually, they aren't that bad looking...just not as good as the 53, 55, and 56. If a 54 happened my way, I certainly would not turn it down even with the original grille...
