Lowering questions

I have a 1991 Ford Explorer XLT, 4.0 V6 and four wheel drive. I have been thinking about lowing my truck 2 inches. A buddy of mine had a set of 2'' rear blocks that he gave me. I have not been able to find any lowing kits for my truck. All I can seem to come up with is using the block kit for the rear and cutting or heating up the front springs. I am not crazy about doing it but I want it lower. The questions i have are, does anyone know of a better way of doing it and has anyone done this or know anyone that has. Because my main concern is not ride comfort is the drive shafts and the transfer case. I dont know if 2" will cause a problem with the universals. So any help or insight would be greatly appriciated. Also I cannot find a rear roll pan for the truck so if anyone might know of one please let me know. Thank you for all your time in advance...

Mike

The straighter your driveshaft the better.

NEVER EVER heat your springs, EVER!
Cutting them is better.

If you have a welder, you can fab higher mounts, which will in turn lower the body to the axles. You should look where your gas tank is and all other items under your fram that have a possibility of coming in contact when your axle needs to travel upwards. the only real spot would be the Diff housing. If you were to lower your vehicle, you would need a Anti-sway bar relocater, something that mounted it higher. Brake lines and all that with 2 extra inches wouldnt be a problem. The Driveshafts, however, could pose a threat when you hit a bump and had upward travel of the axle. The slip yoke would allow you to lower your vehicle, but would it allow you to go up high enough to totally absorb uneven pavement? Talk to a pro at a local shop to make sure.

And now I have a question for you....
WHY DO YOU WANT TO LOWER YOUR 4X4?

For the simple fact that the A4LD trans is junk, so doing some off roading is out of the question. Also everyone lifts... not to many lower.
