alternator hum

alternator hum
I no longer have a stock radio in my 1992 explorer i put in a cd player and I get alternator hum and static interference how do i stop this any special parts i can buy to stop this also i need to know what size speakers it takes front and rear

There are power line filters available at Radio Shack. These are basically an inductor in series with the power lin with a capacitor of 1,000 to 6,000 uf on the radio side of the power to ground, The radio ground to to the body should be a decent size 14 wire. Often the only groud is only through the antena shield. Whine is prety unusual and may be the result of poor connection from engine block to the car body. Add an extra wire to be sure. As for poping...... Check ground strap on the hood. This may have been removed.

I got two sound filters one i put on the radio power wire which is rated 200 watts which is the best one at radio shack and the other i put on the wire that runs the amp which is rated 4 watts it works better but its not the best it still whines what if i ran a wire from the neg side of battery to the neg radio wire would that solve it i also saw an amp level converter at walmart it makes a non stock radio put out as much a stock radio would that stop all this interference because when i had a stock radio it never did this
