Question fuel milage

I HAVE 2004 F-350 4X4 SD SC SB 6.0 WITH AN ENGINE BUILD DATE OF
JULY 30 2003.

AT APROX. 1900 MILES TO BACK TO DEALER. TOLD THEM STRONG EXHAUST ODOR POOR MILAGE AND POWER LOSS.

GET IT BACK AND THEY TOLD ME THE FLASHED COMPUTER AND SHOULD BE OK

AT 2800 MILES TAKE IT BACK FOR SAME PROBLEMS AND NOW SMELL DIESEL IN CRANKCASE

THEY TELL ME #5 INJECTOR LEAKING AND ABOUT A QUART OF FUEL IN OIL

REPLACED INJECTOR AND CHANGE OIL

NOW HAVE 3100 MILES AND GETTING 13 MPG UNLOADED UP FROM 10MPG(CITY)

WHAT'S EVERYBODY GETTING ???

Welcome doberman,
Take the caps lock key off. In computerese, all caps means you are shouting.

Do a search on this site on mileage. You will get lots of hits.

13 mpg city driving is in the current average everyone else is getting. It's not great.

Well, I have a 2004 F-250 SuperDuty CrewCab 4x4 Diesel Lariat. I am currently getting anywhere from 16-18mpg around town and about 18-19 on the highway. My engine build date was 01/06/04 and I have had no problems. However, the diesel smell is a bit different from the old 7.3L which is supposed to be more "environmental friendly." Everything on my truck is stock.

I have a new 2004 Excursion PSD. Been getting 14-16 town, 18 hwy. Thinking about 4" Banks or ATS exhaust to get better mileage and acceleration. Don't know if I want to purchase a chip yet since it's so new. Manufactured just last month 2/04.

Same for me, I get no better than 13 MPG. I'm having to fill up my 38 gallon tank every 400 miles. It takes about 34 gallons every dang 400 miles.

I had the August flash that my truck came with. But the dealer called and told me it had to be flashed with the newest flash.

Before the October flash, I was getting 560 miles per tank at around 16.5 MPG (every 34 gallons).

If they do not come out with a mileage flash soon, I'm going to really lay into Ford.

I want my truck to get the mileage it did when I bought it. We obviously know they are capable of better mileage!

I thought they had a new flash out since October. If I remember correctly it came out in December.

Anybody heard of this???

There is a flash that came out in Dec. Didn't fix the problems caused by the Oct flash. See this site for flash info http://www.flatratetech.com/6literpo...l_updates.html.

I just completed a very frustrating set of calls to Ford Customer Assistance with the 800 number found in your owner manual. I explained the whole thing to them about flashes. I had to call three times to get one person to call back when they said they would. Finally got the message "engineering is aware of the problem and working on it".

My next move is a letter to Bill Ford. I can buy a Predator and get the 20% fuel economy back and risk my warranty or I can wait for Ford engineering to find their way. If Diablo developers can do it, why can't Ford with all their resources. Rant Rant Rant

That Predator sounds like a good idea. I just don't know if I'm willing to put it on my vehicle (new 2004 Ex LTD PSD)yet with stock exhaust. I'm also thinking of waiting till June to get the new Banks 4" SS with dual exhaust. Might get the dual exhaust. I figured what the hell, for another $400 on a $54,000 vehicle you may as well get the best. Then maybe I'll do the Banks chip after that until I eventually get the whole Six Gun system. May take awhile but it seems like a real nice integrated system. I hate having to wait that long because I know this truck can perform much better than what we're getting. The mileage does stink and I do hope Ford does something about it soon. It's kind of like Microsoft Windows in the early 90's...a great engine with great potential...it just needs to be developed and with time it gets even better. Kind of like a good wine I suppose.

13.1 MPG , having same problems plus some. PCM has been flashed 3 times, ICP sensor, ICP regulator, right valve cover gasket, 4 fuel injectors in left head, fuel manifold all replaced. I am in the process of working with a lawyer to have it replaced. Seven times back to the dealer and 45 days out of service & I still love my truck-want it replaced with another one just like it just more dependable.(even had to borrow a friend's '02 chevy duramax to go pick up our new travel trailer because mine was in the shop, but I wouldn't own anything else)

I know. The warranty is an issue if you do exhaust mods. On second thought maybe I'll wait. It just seems like Ford's programming is more tuned for towing on this truck than for normal driving around town. Slow acceleration unless you really step on the gas. If you put a chip on it only, will it void the warranty?

The Ford dealers in Ca. are selling the F250s with lift-kits and 4" exhaust. And Warrenty still applies.

I wonder if you have to buy your exhaust from the Ford dealer for the warranty to apply and have them install it?
