Quadrajet???

Ok, a friend of mine who has a Chevit 350 with a 4bbl carb, said it was a quadrajet.
What exactly is it, is it a certain type or is it a specialty one? Does it do something special or is it a brand???
Thanks for the info.

The Quadrajet is made by Rochester. It has been used on millions of GM V-8's.

Yep, It is a spreadbore (rear barrels larger than the front) low performance carb. Supposedly get better fuel mileage due to the small front barrels, but performance suffers from the large transition from the small primary to large secondary barrels.
If you look at most Chebby's, the low performance versions of their engines used Q-Jets and the high performance ones used squarebore Holleys.

Never seen a performance problem with one because of transition to secondaries. Only hindrance I've ever seen designed into them is the too-small fuel bowl. Growing up a GM guy, I've run a lot of Q-jets and built several. Even have one on my Ford now. That's not a sin. Ford put 'em on the 429CJ's. I can tell you from experience and from comparisons that I've seen that they are one of the best carbs ever built for street or off-road, and they do give superior mileage/driveabilty/dependabilty over a Holley. A Holley will allow you to make more all-out horsepower, and as long as your fuel pump works, will never starve for fuel on a WOT pass. That said, if it's a drag car, I'll use a Holley, but for 150,000 to 200,000 miles on the street without even looking under the air cleaner, I'll take the Q-jet. They will perform very well too, but because of the relative complexity, most people don't know how to set one up properly. It does take some work and some getting used to, especially for people who are used to dropping a fuel bowl and being able to swap jets or power valve, but once you get it tuned in, it's like running EFI. I guess it's all in what you're used to, but after years of driving injected vehicles, it's nice to hear that "moaning" sound they make when the secondary air valve starts opening up!

I was mainly wondering because I am going to hook up and pull him and I was curious is he has an advantage over me cause of the carb.
I have a stock 2bbl Motorcraft 2150.
