Two alternator systems ??
When I was looking to buy, I ran across a 2000 F350 that had 2 alternators. How does that work? I mean, how do they work together to determine when batteries are charged? Seems like they would be in conflict with each other. Or are they set up to charge other batteries than just the Pickup batteries?

I have an 03 F350 with 2 alternaters. They work togeather if needed to help supply the amps and volts for any given load. The dual set up is for a trailer. ie Fithwheel / boat or any trailer that you need to keep the onboard batteries charged.
After starting my truck with the lights on I know when the 2 alt kicks in because you can see the head lights get brighter.
The 7wire trailer plug has a battery +12 socket. Live when hooked up under dash.

I have heard of some people running welding systems off of the secondary alternator, do not know how efficient the weld is but i guess if you are in a tight spot something is better than nothing
