My harmonic balancer is tight against the spacer and torqued beyond belief but it's still not turning straight laterally. It's out maybe 3/32, it doesn't seem to be more 1/16. It's slight but noticeable.
1) Is it supposed to tight against the spacer or should there be some room for tolerance?
2)Is this going to lead to problems? I I have an ever so slight knock inside the motor and I'm starting to associate the balancer with the knock. Am I on the right track or am I paranoid?
I've beat and beat and can't get the balancer to turn true, any suggestions if this is an issue?

The balancer I run on my 428 in my '69 F100 has been wobblin' for like 15 yrs now. It was a chromed factory unit(someone many years ago had it chromed). It does not turn straight, but the pulleys do, so I'm assuming the rubber is a bit out of whack and the outer ring has moved. It is still dead on for timing so I leave it go. It's been to 6000 rpm many a time and it's still hanging in. Guess I'll worry about it when it finally leaves it's mount.
What I was thinking was the balancer is actually the damper. As a result of it wobbling, the pulley is wobbling still neither is alot. Will somebody explain to me what the balancer is?
OK, so I don't have to worry about it messing anything up in the engine.
Love your videos, Sean. What gear ratio do you have in the chunk? Sorry, couldn't help but ask.
People pay alot of money to have their engines balanced. Worrying over grams of difference. The harmonic damper is several spinning pounds, If it is out of balance what do you thimk it is doing to the rest of the rotating assembly? Adding stress instead of absorbing it.

I hope you are not really beating/hitting the balancer?...and it is just a figure of speech.
You might want to remove the balancer using a puller and check either by measurements or "eye" that the balancer is not out of round. If everything seems ok, then re-install with the proper tools. The balancer's go on pretty easy and flush to the spacer.
Keep in mind...that if it is an original...these are really old and may need replacing. You can find them completely remanufactured and less than $75. http://www.ebay.com/
