Resale on a 4x2 really depends on your location. here in MN, resale on a 4x2 is poor. I would guess that 90% of trucks sold here are 4x4. Probably a different story in southeren states.
I don't think this is a common as a 4x4 with a psd. I had a link the other day that had Fords recommendations on what a dealer should stock. 4x4 psd's were over 50 percent if I recall. Short boxes are recommended over long beds. If I find the link I'll post it. As someone mentioned the recommendation I saw could be a regional one.

I have a 99 F-250SD, Lariat, Crew-Cab, 2wd, v10. Not sure about rear axel. I use it to pull a 24 foot enclosed car trailer, about 7000 pounds when loaded. I see this combination used often for work trucks here in Charlotte NC although most of the private owner have 4x4's.
