? for Sturge

Thank you for your help with the LLS system, the information was useful. I went to the site that sells the conversion kit for $250, looks good. Is that all that I need to convert? Do I also need shocks? Is it easy or hard to convert? I know you said that you brought yours to a mechanic that you know, unfortunatley I dont know any.

Another question is about the front suspension, it doesnt seem to be compromised by what is going on with the rear, is this possible? Do I need to do anything in the front?

Thank you so much in advance

The rear is easy to do. the front is a bit tougher. The rear took me about an hour or so and the front took me 2-3. The rear air bags are easy, the front is held up by torsion bars so its just the shocks. I went through Strutmasters for my front and rear kit. The rear is great and the front you could get away with a cheaper shock. Do you have the 4 corner LLS? I am happy i never have to deal with the Air Ride again! But that Damn chech susp light is still on. I will remove the bulb!!!!

? for any lls expert out there

How do I know if I have 4 corner LLS? I have a 1997 expy xlt 4x4.
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I havent had the truck long and havent had to deal with suspension problems in the past. I also just hit 100,000 miles on it.

I definitely am going to switch to strutmasters conversion kit, but I dont know if I need to do anything with the front or not. Like I said, right now it looks like the height in the front is normal.

Do you think that any place like monroe muffler could install the conversion?

thanks

My problem was always the rear sagging to the frame - if you have the same issue that kit should do the trick...I never had any issue with the front. You can see the air lines going into the front air shocks if you have LLS in front. As to why the front didn't sag when the rear did, I believe that the air lines supplying the front are separated from those that supply the rear and they are isolated so when you get a leak in one you don't lose pressure in both ends. As for replacing shocks, depends on how many miles you have. They are not that expensive and if you're in there it may be worth it to replace them while you're there. I do not believe it's a real tough job (I would have done it myself if it wasn't snowing and 0degF!). I think any shop should be able to install. The kit comes with some instructions which my mechanic said were actually useful!

If I were you I would go with the rear conversion and see how things go. I traded my truck less than 1000 miles after the conversion so I don't have lots of 'post mod' experience to share.
Never did figure out how to make the 'check suspension' light go out...tried removing fuses, unplugging wire harness to compressor, etc. It stayed off for the first 10 minutes of driving but would always come back on.
Good luck

Thank you,

I will order the kit now. Looks like surfing the web and finding this site will save me a few hundred dollars and probably a lot of headaches!

I miss driving my expy it has been down and out for a week now while I have been trying to figure this out. My second car is a 87 corvette, and I have been driving that. Talk about two extremes in size difference. I also live in NY so we are still dealing with snow, corvette isnt too much fun in that.

I am going to be buying a 2000 lincoln ls with 40,000 miles on it very soon. I am stealing it for about $10,000. Anyone have any experience with these?
