Air Conditioner vent temperatures

I have a new 2004 XLT and the other day the outside temperature got up to near 80 degrees. My air conditioner did not cool too well. I tested the vent temperature and it read 45 to 47 degrees. I used the same temperature gauge in two other cars and they got the vent temperature down to 36 to 38 degrees on the same day. Is this just typical of this A/C unit not to cool as well as others? Could someone on this forum take a vent reading on their Expedition and tell me what the temperature reads? Please list outside temperature as well. Thanks a million!

do a search for air conditioning. I stated that thread months ago with my A/C problems on my 03 XLT and since then Ford bought back due to unable to fix the air conditioning. But lots of good info on A/C. Mine had a problem, would go down as low as 30 the heat back up to 52-56. I would think yours should be a little colder than the reads you are getting.

WOW! I just read that whole thread. I am glad you got a new car. My vent temperatures are steady but not cold enough. It sits at 45 to 47 all the time. I guess I will take it back to the service dept. when it gets warmer and stays that way. I HOPE I do not have a problem! Can you take a reading on your vents with that digital thermometer?? I would be grateful!

JRCASE

My temp stays between 38 & 40, very consistent too. Thank goodness.....I used a digital termometer that I used on my 03 when it was blowing hot and cold. Your temps seem a bit warm, but what do I know.

Thanks for checking, raudy. Was that at idle or going down the road? Also, was it on REC? What fan speed? Sorry for being a pest, but I noticed these things can effect temperature output. Thanks again!

What is REC? I was going down the road around 60 mph when checked and it was only 74 outside, and probably the fan speed was two notches down.

This climate control is so different than what I am used to. Before you had A/C and MAX A/C. Now one button says A/C then the other is for using air inside the car. I put both of them on and the the get the same temp as using just the A/C button. Does any of this make sense?

I read my manual on how to operate this climate control but it is not that detailed. Never mentions MAX air like most cars have. So I don't know what would be Max in this car. ANyhow that was my readings.

Thanks raudy. I think FORDCR was refering to his post when he said proof read

When I said REC, I meant MAX A/C. I guess I do have a problem and will need to take it in. I just HATE for those technicians to touch my vechicle. It seems they do more harm than good.

JRCASE - personally I liked it when I just had a few choices to set the air, will just have to get used to all the bells and whistles on this car.

They cause me problems though, when I put 20" tires and beautiful chrome rims on my car now must go to Ford to deactivate the tire pressure monitor. When I start the car my menu screen says "Tire Pressure System Fault", must push reset to get rid of it. So this will cost me minimum of $80.00 they say. If it cost more than $80.00 I will pushing reset a lot. I am asking for a cost before they start the work.
