Overdrive light blinking

I have an automatic trans. When it goes to the first shift it lunges froward. All the others have no problem. Then I notice that my overdrive light (led) was blinking. Looking for suggestions

What year is it? Does the blinking OD light go out at all, or is it always on?

When to OD light is blinking it indicates the transmission has set some fault codes. You should get the codes read. The lunge in first gear probably is caused by the transmission's fault codes being set. When a fault is indicated the transmission increases the pressure and the shifts are very hard and is particularly noticeable in first. This is rough on the transmission and you should get the codes checked and reset as soon as possible. Dicsonnecting the battery will reset it.

I have this problem right now on my 99 F-150... lunge in first, blinking O.D. "Off" Indicator light, and now it's dying in reverse. Looks like the lock up torque converter is "locked up" and not releasing, ford built some fail safes into these tranny's to keep them from slipping and burning up if the computer detected a problem insided. But you can take it and have it put on a diag. machine for about $50-$70 and they should be able to tell you exactly what the problem is.
