I am currently living in Birmingham, Alabama and I am asking for some help in finding a job back on the East Coast ..... I graduated in 2002 as a computer science major and have been working for 2 years as a Software Programmer ..... I would like to continue as a programmer but I would like to work in Pennsylvania, Maryland, DC, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina or Georgia ..... using the internet alone hasnt been too successful so I wanted to see if any of you could possibly help me out. I know there has to be some job openings out there you just have to know the right people. If you company gives referral bonuses I am all for using your name as the referral employee and getting you some extra money.... anyway, any information at all will be helpful ..... thanks in advance for you time.
The following website address is linked to every unemployment office in the united states.
You are bound to find the job your looking for in the area you want if you show the initiative to do it.
Some of the best jobs never make it to the paper/internet. Along with networking, I've found it to be beneficial to identify/research/send cover letter + resume/followup. Often a manager is considering hiring someone but simply hasn't gone looking. These are the people you want to find.
Do you have a security clearance? If so, then I could get you a job with in a week no problem. I'm up here is Maryland and we have "TONS" of openings for people who have clearances.
Check with Lockheed Martin in Marietta Ga. they need people on the F22 program, especially if you do embedded software. As someone stated earlier if you already have a security clearance your in like Flynn but I think they need uncleared people too. They have an external web site with the openings posted but I don't have a link.--Jack
I know of some opeinings north of New York City in the semiconductor manufacturing equipment service industry. Not programming but if you also have a mechanical aptitude and are interested let me know.
If the economy's as bad as the Dems. say it is I don't know why your even bothering to look for a job. Supposedly 300,000 people "gave up" looking for work last month. I don't know about you but if I need a job "giving up" is not an option.-Jack

Most of those you refer to, "gave up", are those that fell off benefit lists, took contract or part-time jobs, or started self employment. No one, Dem or Repub, has to mistate the job numbers, they are public record. Some of the numbers are discussed in the thread "Dubya's resume" in Off topic Forum.

5.6% unemployment is lower than 6% in 96 when Clinton ran for his second term and the Dems weren't screaming about jobs then, why? I've been trying to stay off the OTF. Got a headache from beating my head against a brick wall so I'll leave it at that.-Jack
Jobs are tough to find. Here in canada I can name a few dozen friends of mine with comp sci degrees who are bagging groceries (I wouldn't really consider that a job suiting the degree though).
I'm working at the local college, but I'm only on a term position (and I get 4 months of unpaid summer). I'm trying to find summer work but it looks like I may be on unemployement insurance if nothing pans out. I'll have a job in the fall, but the summer months I have nothing.
Best of luck finding a job!!!! I hope you have more luck than most of my friends and I have had up here.
