Water in Fuel??

The "water in fuel" light is coming on occassionally when I'm going around a corner. I know how to drain the fuel from the filter fuel bowl but how much of the fuel should I drain out. I assume the engine should be off while doing so?? Thanks.

I usualy let mine drain for about 30 seconds or so, just enough to clear out the fuel bowl.

I don't know how to drain the fuel/water. I thought I read somewhere it is a yellow handle petcock which I found at the front pass side of the fuel bowl. It does not move very freely and I did not want to force it. Which way does it move? Thanks...

Definately have the engine OFF. The way I do it is attach a small hose to the outlet and drop it under the truck and put the hose in a bucket. Once I open the valve I just watch the fluid coming out into the bucket until I see and smell diesel fuel. Thats it.

my light came on about three weeks ago and so i stopped the truck and drained it, but i didnt have to time how long before i had to close the valve because it sounded like it had quit draining so then i closed the valve, is that right or should as long as the drain is open something should keep coming out, or do i have a problem???

Nope - no problem. With the motor shut off you only have so much fuel in the bowl to drain - until starting the motor re-fills it.

OK, I give up...how do you drain the fuel? Also, where is the water separator located?
Thanks in advance!

I have a 2000 PSD....it's on top, right in the center of the engine, in front, under the black cover that says "7.3 Powerstroke". You'll see a small yellow lever, it should be pointing toward the firewall. Push it to the left (I'm assuming your standing in front of the truck...actually, you'll be kneeling on the radiator support!)and it will drain the separator. It will be messy unless you take a 5/8" hose and attach it to the metal drain tube on the engine.
