At various mileage intervals the factory scheduled maintenance booklet says to change the auto. transmission/transaxle fluid on all vehicles equipped with AX4S, AX4N, 4R70W, 4R100, 4F27E.
What do these references (AX4S, etc.) mean, and does my truck have one or the other of them?
These are various models of different transmissions. You have the 4R100. Ford recommends to change the fluid every 30,000 miles of these transmissions. The year model you have should have a drain plug on the torque converter. If you service the trans yourself, you get almost all the fluid out by draining the pan and torque converter. I have been doing the "complete" drain every other fluid change. I service it a little sooner if I do quite a bit of towing.
