I have a 97 f30 PS my batteries went dead after running radio too long at mardigras. Ever since then my truck struggles to start like the batteries are weaker. So i brought it the the interstate battery dealer so he could check them out and he said they were in great shape that i didnt hurt them at all. he checked out everything else and all checked ok. the starter checked at 9.8volts which wasnt that bad he said. So i tried to charge the batteries over night just in case but that didnt help I was wondering if the starter might be just wore out enough to struggle like it is. Is there an easy cheap fix or do i need to replace the entire starter. any help would be appreciated.
Sounds like a problem that i had with my 99 truck. I had to replace the starter.
For you however, i would check all the cables and grounds first. Make sure they have good connections and no voltage drop.
The slower the starter turns over, the more amps are going through it, therefore putting more stress on the starter. Mine went out in the middle of NV. Id replace it under controled condiitons.
Also, what checked out at 9.8volts?
the starter doesnt produce voltage. If your starter is drawing 2 good batteries down to 9.8 volts, somehting is going bad.
i would say have the batteries checked again at an auto parts store, like autozone or pep-boys before you go spending money on a starter. never hurts to get a second opinion
