Help! Starting Problem!
Please HELP!
I turn off my van in park, like normal. The next time I hop in the van to go somewhere, I turn the key and everything comes on like normal, but I get no crank/starter motor whatsoever! Nothing!
Then sometimes, I turn the key very, very slowly from the "on" position to the "start" position, and SOMETIMES it will start if I "find" the exact position on the key switch to make good electrical contact.
Obviously, there seems to be a bad connection in the ignition key switch.
I replaced both the key switch/tumbler and the Ignition switch (white rectangular plastic box with column shift pin, and wire harness connector, located on the lower left side of the steering column, $20 part at Autozone, $45 at dealer.)
I also replaced the Starter Relay. It's the one under the hood on side of the engine bay next to the battery. All fuses have been checked and are good.
Still the same problem! It will not start. The Starter Motor & Solenoid are good because it starts EVERY time by "jumping" the starter relay.
This problem seems to be intermittent. Sometimes it will work, sometimes not at all.
IN ADDITION, when I do start it by jumping the starter relay, the engine will NOT STOP RUNNING if the key is Turned Off!!!
However, if the Fuel Pump Inertia Switch is disconnected or in the "Triggered" or "button up" position, the engine will turn off when the key is turned off! If the Fuel Pump Inertial Switch is connected and in the Normal (button down) position, the engine will Not Shut Off !!! The only other way to turn off the engine is to disconnect BOTH the Battery AND the Alternator power wire.
Should I be looking for a bad connection at a wiring harness, another relay, a fusible link?
Any Help Would Be Appreciated! TIA!
