Snow Plow

Am looking at an F-250 XL SC 5.4 to plow with, the one I drove had the harshest ride I've ever encountered - can I put a plow on a different suspension pkg - Also, what's the reliability on the 4R100 trans - Last thing-I like a basic truck, has any one regretted getting an XL instead of an XLT

Thanks

You can put a plow on anything you want, but if it's a Ford and it doesn't have the Snow Plow Prep Package, you'll void the warranty if the plow causes any problems. It doesn't void the entire warranty, just the parts affected by the plow.

The 4R100 is the strongest automatic Ford puts in a gas-powered vehicle; it's got a good reputation.

Big difference between an XL and XLT: power windows/locks/mirrors, A/C, tilt and cruise, CD player, chrome bumpers and wheels, 40/20/40 split bench. Plus, a lot of options are only available on XLT/ Lariat models. If you can live without that stuff, go for the XL. Personally, I've got a tough time dealing with manual air conditioning! "What do you mean, I have to adjust the temperature MYSELF?!"

I have always opted for the XLT. I like the comforts. I could never spring for Leather though.... The XL is fine for those using as a work truck but for myself, give me the XLT.
1956MarkII is correct about the plow prep package. I use my 2003 for plowing and it is quite comfortable except for the flat mirror on the right side. Useless for plowing... Who is the genius that thought we would not need a convex mirror on the right side.

You will get used to the X-springs after awhile, just give them some time, good tranny, and I am all for the XLT, but i'm not buying your truck, so.....

I recently traded a loaded '97 F150 for my XL. So far the only thing I've missed is the electric windows, being able to lower the window so the hound can sling drool down the passenger's side. Having bought my XL on time I figured why finance what I can add myself. Plus I'm less aprehensive about getting the interior dirty. Ultimately you have to decide what you want, need and how your gonna use your truck.

The best thing about an XL.....RUBBER FLOORS!!!! Carpet in a truck. What a joke! Trucks are made for work and you shouldn't have to wipe your feet before you get into one.

Cool Snow plow

I have a 2000 F350 and a 2004 4x4s with snowplow packages and they do not ride harsh like the old style trucks did..

Mine rides like a caddy with the X springs....I don't think the fords are harsh at all...Unless they had 90 lbs of air in the tires. That will chatter your teeth...

Thanx for the input, I've got one located at 20.9% off retail (invoice less 2500 and 750 military), $24,812 plus tax & lic. - The Mpls. Auto Show starts tomorrow, I'm heading there before I do the deal.
