Ranger Tranny/Clutch problems
On my 1991 Ranger (2.9L Super Cab), lately it's been having a weird problem. Once in a while, it will refuse to shift into any gear from neutral. This happened at a car dealership, and one of the salesmen said he thought it was synchros. My truck has 135,000 miles and the clutch has never been replaced or worked on. It could be that my clutch just isn't disconnecting my engine from the tranny when I press it in. I think the clutch problem is more likely, but I don't know a whole lot about cars/trucks. Any comments are appreciated.

Check the fluid level in the hydraulic clutch reservoir. Little white reservoir under the hood probably near the drivers side hood hinge. If it is low, top it off and check for a slight fluid leak at the bottom of the transmission bellhousing where the engine and transmission connect together. I might be your clutch slave cylinder leaking slowly inside the transmission, using up the fluid in the reservoir and making it hard to shift.
