v10 mufflers

Hey all, is there any sound bites of Flowmaster 40 versus 70 series out there on the V10? Any performance, HP, differences between the 2? Muffler change out only.

Hi, right now i have a flowmaster 40 series delta flow. it is broken on bolth flanges. I think it sounds ok, for the most part you won't see a significant change in proformance. i think stock the truck sounds god awful. i am installing headers next week. i plan to get a stainless steel 3" in, dual 2.5? out. I don't know much about exhaust think think dual 2.5" is a good idea?

I have a FLow 70 Series (pn 53073) on my '01 V10. I bought this muff because it's heavier duty (heavy dutier?) than the 40 series. I do some heavy towing so things get pretty warm underneath and so far I've had no problems with the 70. On my previous truck, '88 F250, six months after putting on a 40 series, I blew the back end out of it while towing. Took it back to the muff shop, they just scratched their heads and replaced it.

The 53073 is the pn Flow uses in their cat-back system and is a direct replacement for the stocker. 3" I/O offset

Here is the part number for the entire 70 series Flowmaster system FLO-17229, the FLO- part is Summit's addition, it is just 17229 from Flowmaster. Summit has it for $189 which is a great price considering the muffler costs about $110 alone.

Thanks for the info. I never thought about the 70 being more heavy duty but it makes sense. They also list that one for the RV's & towing. I do tow quite a bit & loaded down with tools, ladders, & an oversize contractror toolbox cap. I was thinking the 40 would be a little louder\throatier but if it might blow apart or overheat I better go with the 70. That Summit FLO-17229 joeypurcell is talking about, sounds like a good deal. What else comes with it besides the muffler?

It comes with the tail pipe, stock location hangers, and clamps. For the price, and quality, the kit far surpasses what kind of deal a shop would give you. Your stock V10 pipe works great also, but you would probably want the 53073 muffler welded. I am buying the kit because I had some half a$$ put on a midas single in dual out and run dual 2.25 pipes instead of 2.5 pipes. Plus I like the clean look the single gives.

I am planning to put a cat-back exhaust on my truck.I have been looking at the Flowmaster due to the price(Summit Rocks!!!) and there A-1 reputation but I have heard that the V-10's sound is dissapointing. Is it worth it or is there a better choice?

Personally heard the 70 series kit from Flowmaster, which my Uncle bought from Summit. Awesome sound. Hard to get the deep sound out of the V10's, but the Flowmaster kit sounds great IMO. That is my choice, and on order!

Just checking out the kit at Summit. Seems like a easier, cleaner, install getting that kit rather than just the muffler. Didn't look to easy to cut out the old & try to fit in the new muffler without welding it like you said. It's on back order till the 17th according to Summit. I'm gonna order it up. To bad they don't have a chrome tip or something like the Gibson kit has. Those add on ones don't look as nice as those built on the end by the manufacturer

I agree with that one. I usually buy the Gibson, and tack it myself on the top and bottom out of sight. No need to run a full bead. My buddy is awesome at welding and can tack it from the inside of the tip on 3.5" and bigger so it looks like factory to the exhaust. My hands are to big for that!

can you believe that the dang stainless steel tip cost a extra $70. $259 with the tip....$189 without....Is the tip welded? Can stainless steel be welded to aluminized steel with a mig welder? I think the heat would damage the finish of the stainless steel...just trying to avoid paying the extra money....you can buy all kinds of tips for about $20 a piece.

I had my stainless tip mig welded to my factory exhaust. Bought the tip from Summit for about $35.00 and paid $20.00 for the welding. Very little discoloration at the edge of the tip at the weld. When I did my Dad's on his PSD, I attached with a stainless sheet metal screw and put a little JB Weld in any gap (I slid the tip to the bend in the factory pipe) to prevent any movement. It's been fine for a year and 12K miles.

I am kindof hung up still on pipe diameter. the banks kit is a 3.5" single )tail pipe back). I believe somone on this site has 3" true dual? how can this be right? Have any of you seen this part of the flowmaster page, http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cg...r/muffsys.html

i was looking at a single 3" input with dual 2.5" out.
Flowmasters horspower recomendation don't seem high enough.
i am going with low impedence injectors(actual whole new fuel system), diable 3 stage chip, and a 75 hp shot dirct port nos kit. I am looking at the nifty little things you put underyour injector it's made by nos i think the called NOSzles.
my 02 v-10 must put out like 300 hp now. so this would make it jump to 400 quick.
