How much nitrous can a mostly stock engine handle.
I have a 77 460 in my 67 f100 and I was wondering how much nitrous oxide it can handle. The engine as far as I was told was rebuilt within 40,000 miles ago. The only mods it has are, Holley 750 4bbl vac. secondaries electric choke carb, Weiand stealth dual plane high rise intake manafold, hedman hedders, dual 2.5" exhaust and the timing advanced 12 degrees.
anyone? Dose anyone know if it might be able to handle a 100 hp or 125 hp wet system with fuel selonid (sp?) hooked up to a nitrous enrichment tank with C16 fuel
It should be able to handle 100-125 HP kit but I wouldn't go above that.
Dependng on what your compression ratio is you shouldn't need C-16 fuel...that's overkill. Most nitrous Mfg's recommend retarding timing 2 degrees for every 50 HP increase. If your running under 9 :1 compression you probably will be O.K. by retarding 2-4 degrees and running premium. If you get detonation (check your plug readings) then add some 100 octane low lead aviation gas...it's way much cheaper than racing fuel.
Assuming you have a typical non-performance rebuild you probably got low comp. cast pistons. If thats the case just take Deen's advise. You should not have any problems at that level if you are careful to make sure you avoid detonation.
