Thinking about buying a 63 f100? any way to tell what kind of rearend, transmission, and engine is iin it. man says it is a ford 9 in c6 tran and 400 small block. how can i tell this. Also, i will want to lower the truck and put on disc brakes. i am mechanically inclined, just want to know if it is possible and where to get the parts. Any direction would be nice.
Lot going on here... First off, the 63 is not the most condusive to disc brake swaps and lowered front ends, in fact, takes quite a bit. Second, the motor is not a factory motor for the truck. The 400m shared the same block as a 351m so you will need to dig in and check out the stroke of the crank, to be safe. As far as the rear end, you should be able to look at it and tell, if it's Ford, it will be smooth on the back and you will need to measure the input side of it. Do some searching for "stroke test", "Engine ID" and "Rearend ID".
You may also want to check in the specific forums for info...
If you plan on doing this easy, you may wish to consider a newer 65, as when the switch to I-Beams, they also kept the parts on the trucks through 78.
I'd pass on this truck. IMHO! Wait on a 65-66 that is not hacked, fairly original and as rust free as you can afford. Unless your getting it for less than 500 bucks, then it is worth that for parts.
