Seems when I let my 99 F-250 Super-duty sit out in the Texas heat for over 10 hours at a time, then start it, It won't hold on idle. You can accelerate the motor in park but it won't hold an idle until you drive it for a few miles. This only happens when the temp. is above 90 degrees. Could it be the idle sensor or the temp. sensor on the intake manifold? Anyone else have this problem with a V-10??
My truck liked to do that. The only time it would do it was after work after it sat out in the sun all day on a warm day. It never did it in the morning or on cooler days or after sitting in the dealers lot all day. After a couple trips to the dealer they finally just ended up changeing the idle air control vavle and it hasn't done it since and it's been almost a year now. It seems to be a common problem on this trucks for some reason because I've read about several people needing theirs changed too.
You could try taking it off and cleaning it with throttle body cleaner but, that doesn't always work. I tried doing that to mine before taking it to the dealer and it worked for about a month but then it started doing it again. The Ford part # is YC2Z 9F715 AA and has a list price of $65.52. At the time I called a few parts stores just to see how much they wanted for one and no one had them. So, if you're out of warranty, there's a good chance you'll have to get ripped off at the dealer for the part.
Thanks J.C. That seemed to have fixed it. This morning (in the rain) it wouldn't even idle so I went to the FORD house and dropped $85.00 for the same part number you paid $60+.... I guess they needed a little extra for the trouble of a Saturday parts run. Thanks again from Texas
